I generally try to avoid going shopping with my wife, because I'll inevitably find my way into the trap of evaluating articles of clothing that she decides to try on, asking for my "HONEST" opinion.

The only right honest opinion when shopping with a spouse or significant other is that 'it' looks great. I know this. She, of course, knows that I know this, and will interrogate me on the various nuances of the clothing to see how I really feel. This shit is way the hell out of my wheelhouse. As a straight man, I have three possible honest opinions on women's clothing:

1) it looks hot and makes me want to fuck immediately if not sooner.
2) It looks so ridiculous that I am inspired to clown on the person wearing them in the interest of comedy.
3) I don't give a shit.

I realize this thread is about smartphones, and I'm getting there. bear with me a minute, bro.

So, when evaluating clothing that my wife is trying on, option one is the only one that can be received well, but if overused (i.e. more than a few times), loses credibility. So, to solve this problem, I generally just avoid going shopping with her.

This has proven to be a solid strategy until this past Fall when she got a shiny new iphone 4s. The first smartphone she had with a halfway decent camera. Good for her, I'm always glad to see someone enjoying tech. The problem that's manifested in the last few weeks now that she's finished medical residency and is in that in-between-jobs space is that she goes shopping by herself more frequently and sends me tons of pictures of her trying out clothing and asking for my HONEST opinion.

I'm tough and honest with the lady when she asks my opinion. I'd say about 90% of the time I give negative (but honest) feedback on the clothes she tries on. This, in turn, has led her to dislike shopping with me because she values my opinion and doesn't end up buying anything.

So either she doesn't take me shopping, or when she goes shopping, she doesn't waste her money and buy anything.
