This really makes me angry. First off, I am sorry that some surfer got killed, but the over reaction to this kind of thing is stupid. Great Whites are endangered, as are a lot of shark species, due to over fishing/hunting. Australia, and I think South Africa and New Zealand, are a few places where the great white is protected. I read somewhere, in light of this attack, people were saying they need to lift the protection. In the article above they say they need to cull them.

Why in the hell do people take this shit out on the animal. They are actually trying to hunt the shark that killed this kid...like in friggin Jaws or something. The kid was knowingly surfing in an area known to have a large great white population, and was known to be prone to shark attacks. The risk was on him. It is so stupid to hold the shark, or all the sharks accountable. Its like the people off California, who surf the rocky coast where the seals and sea lions live. The risk is on them, because thats where the great whites hunt. why blame the shark who is just doing what they do in their habitat. If an 18ft great white walks into my house, then Id probably shoot him. Or if a kid is eaten by a lion at Wal Mart, then maybe we can be mad at the lion. But how the hell can you blame and seek revenge on an animal acting as its supposed to in its own habitat. When you enter their world, the risk and caution is on you. Trying to blame and seek revenge on an animal is some stupid Moby Dick shit.

People are fucking retarded. I am a big supporter of animal protection/conservation.

but srsly, I agree with OP. Dude was hanging out in known shark infested waters so he knew the risk and did it anyway. It's his own fault.
