No currency, items are used to buy and sell, and trading between users is encouraged.

Has ladders, hardcore (where characters arent lost on death), PvP, etc.

Its stress test weekend opens in 2 hours, but as little as a 10 dollar donation will get you a beta key and access to it non-stop until the open beta that starts late this year.

Yeah they have some kinks to work out, especially with control mechanics but the core is awesome.

They could definitely take some cues from D3 though as far as visual elements, control mechanics, and feedback go.

I played like maybe 2 or 3 months ago, around the open D3 beta, and there is literally no instruction once you open the game. It is also not very intuitive at all lol. How do you get skills? No clue. 6 minutes later, a skill drops.

yep. They are aiming for open beta at the end of the year. Once open beta hits, there will be no more character or item wipes so whatever you make/get will be yours permanently.

Its wiped when the closed beta ends and open begins at the end of the year. You keep any character names and anything bought at the 'store' (like extra character slots or bank tabs)

unless you buy into the closed beta (10 bucks) you can only play on their open beta weekend events (like the one this weekend). If you play this weekend and decide you like it and buy access next week sometime your character will still be there though.

But yeah, its reverted back to level 1 and all items are removed once the closed beta ends(estimated to be end of year).

Anything made from open beta onward will not be wiped though.

I finally finished the download, and with all the packet loss on my line (AT&T sucks, but that's a different story). I hope playing the game itself doesn't require constant messaging the whole time or I might not be able to play it at all given our poor DSL service.

Hopefully I'll have time early this week to check the game out.

I played it a bit yesterday. So far so good. I never played Diablo 3 so I don't really have that to compare it against.

From what I've seen so far all the skills in that huge tree are passive skills. I haven't looked at it extensively, even though I've earned 9 skill points and 2 reassign points. I'll need to read a bit about that before assigning points.

From what I've seen all the typical skills (the Diablo 2 non-passives) are all governed by gems that you socket your items with. Any character can use any gem, I guess they figure certain skills granted by gems are more favorable than others with respect to how they compliment passives that each class has.

Gems level up and become more powerful. They gain a small percentage of the exp you gain, even if they are socketed in your secondary weapon bank. Armor has sockets as well, but I'm not sure what they are for since I have yet to see a gem that didn't read as though it only offered weapon specific modifiers.

This is pretty much all i play these days. Ive uninstalled Diablo 3 because it just doesnt offer anything near what this game does.

I play exclusively hardcore, though i did level a 2h melee ranger into the 50s on default first to get a feel for the game.

Right now im leveling my freeze pulse marauder(just hit 48) but i also have a 65 lightning strike shadow and a 41 lightning shot duelist.

How's the story? I know you're not supposed to play these games for their good storytelling, but I'd probably want to get it whenever they're done with that and go through it a few times. WoW broke me of grinding..(at least that's what I tell myself I grinded the shit out of d3 with paragon bs)

played eq gladiator last season and it wrecked pretty hard, but couldn't quite make it to shaper. trying eq slayer this time and maybe switching to endless retch leech build later on.
