I may be relocating to take a new position, and they are putting together a relo package for me. Since this is my first job change where the hiring company is paying for a relo, I wanted to see if you guys had any advice on what things I should make sure are included, what is fluff, etc...
Any thoughts? Anything to watch out for? Anything to specifically make sure is in the deal? 7/30/2012 7:09:03 PM |

How far is the relocation?
In my experience, when I relocated in order to join a company, I was given about $5000 & a start date. I was expected to use the money to pack & move shit my own self.
When I have relocated as an employee of a company, I've been given about $5000 & has movers sent to pack everything for me, load it into a truck & was given a date it would show up in the new location. They'd also store my stuff for up to 30 days & move my car too. Then I was allowed to submit receipts for specific things like airfare, rental car, hotel & meals. The $5000 stipend was meant for the burden of canceling & setting up new things.
So as you can see, once you're in with a company, the relo benefits can be drastically better. For what it's worth, I was able to move myself when I started with the $5000 easily with cash to spare. 7/30/2012 11:38:38 PM |
