more like integra, CRX, miata, 240sx (maybe)in the 4k range the cars you find aught to be reasonably nice. Like a 4k CRX should be relatively unmolested... Good transmission (synchros not worn out), not ricerized (not lowered, factory wheels, engine bay).I know you could find a good mid 90's integra for 4k. I assume you want RWD or something fast based on your initial suggestions, which I did not offer except for the 240, and it is not fast. I know you have had some fast cars in the past... What are you wanting to do exactly?

I suggest the gsx. Thoroughly reliable.

i was in this situation a few months ago and went with a Miata. pretty reliable and easy to work on, only thing to watch out for is rust under the bumper and a bad top. just not very fast, but then again i'm using it for AutoX and stuff so i dont really care[Edited on July 31, 2012 at 4:47 AM. you might be able to find a e30 in reasonable shape for about 3-4.

^^ e30s were an awesome deal once upon a time.... typically...not anymore. what are you looking for in said "fun car" i mean a 90s miata is slow as shit but still fun and in that price range. albeit a little ~

^ Yup, you nailed it...I looked at E30's before I picked up my E36 M3. My experience is that they were very rare, and typically not any cheaper than an E36.The E36 M3 I picked up was only $5k, but it has required about $2k more in parts to get the suspension worked out and is requiring a lot of wrenching. You might be able to find an E36 325i/328i coupe in your price range that's in decent shape though, and that could be a reasonably fun car for the money.
