Telemarketer from Astoria, OR just called (503)468-5092


So I hit 1 to talk to somebody because I want to talk to them and say STOP CALLING ME, right? Forget a do-not-call list. Those don't work! That's just another DATABASE.

So Scott answers the phone. 'Hey this is Scott...blahbalbhalh"
Me: "Scott- Your company has GOT to stop calling me, you call me twice a day. It's ridiculous."
Scott: "Well maybe you should get a security system"
Me: I have guns.
Scott: "Well, you never know...."

AND HE HUNG UP ON ME....

So now I'm freaking out that he's going to come rob me. I don't want to put a bullet through anyone's head. I'm sure his mother loves him very much. And plus- my aim isn't that good when I'm shaking from nerves....

Not to mention, I don't have time to go to court.

So, is it harmless? Or should I be concerned?

if you are that panicky over a phonecall, you shouldn't have guns. if guns make you feel safer, you're an idiot. 999 times out of 1000 a "break in" is just an unannounced guest or a confused demented old person. This doesn't get reported because it doesn't help police get their funding. And cops and gun nuts are not qualified to have an opinion. Those idiots actually think there is more crime during a full moon, and I bet you do too. You are wrong.

if someone gets in your house, you should use the same escape plan that you would use for a house fire. practice getting out of the window.

if you shoot somebody, you WILL get convicted of manslaughter and go to prison. A legitimate bad guy trying to break in and hurt you is nothing but a television fantasy. It is ALWAYS a misunderstanding. The probability of a genuine home invasion EVEN if you have a crazy stalker or ex lover is somewhere between getting struck by lightning and getting cancer. For all practical purposes, it doesn't exist.

Somewhat related, this home security company that came through our neighborhood was supposedly linked to showing up trying to sell stuff, then breaking into cars a few days/week later in order to scare people into buying the equipment. They came through our area at like 7pm one night saying that there was just a break in somewhere deeper in the neighborhood, which turned out to be complete shit.

Soliciting wasn't allowed, so someone called the cops and kicked them out of the area.

I have a friend of mine that is a paramedic. He said that nobody ever wants to work when it is a full moon because they always have so many more calls then any other time of the month. He is certain that full moons bring out the crazies.

people running a scam trying to talk you into handing them cash for cleaning products, security systems, gutter cleaning, pre-paid legal...

None of them are going to break into your home. If they were willing to do that, why would they waste their time trying to trick you? They do however sometimes prey on the quiet little old lady on two doors down that is trying to hide her dementia from the world to hang on to a few more months of liberty.

You should check on old people and never call the police on them for being old. Almost all of them would rather die than have their independence taken away.

After moving to China and seeing how they treat their elderly, I fucking hate Americans.
