Google to downgrade pirate sites in search results
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Google Inc. is altering its search results to de-emphasize the websites of repeat copyright offenders and make it easier to find legitimate providers of music, movies and other content.
The move is a peace offering to Hollywood and the music recording labels. This year, Google joined other Silicon Valley heavyweights to help kill legislation that would have given government and content creators more power to shut down foreign websites that promote piracy.

Isn't that what ads are for? If you're legit, then you can afford to advertise your legitmacy. If true, then thanks, google, for selling out to big media

Not with a rogue government they can't. You give an inch, the government will take a mile.
Just watch. I'll post in this thread in the future when government isn't satisfied anymore. Google will step back and draw another line to cross and the government will keep crossing it.
Watch. 8/12/2012 3:18:01 PM

It's not the government's decision... Didn't that legislation get voted down anyway? This is an agreement between Google (private company) and Hollywood companies (private companies) to appease them. No website owner has a right to have their results show up on Google. So no rights are being violated... 8/12/2012 3:20:56 PM

Right... I did. So the legislation was killed. How about you read and see that this is not the government's doing but rather Google's own doing (probably in an attempt to gain a more lucrative contract from the music/video industry to help increase their revenue for Google's own Play store). 8/12/2012 3:27:39 PM
