"10. Chapel Hill, NC

Top 100 rank: 10
Population: 59,000

Locals aren't exaggerating when they refer to Chapel Hill as a "town within a park." The roads wind through tunnels of arching trees, and the area has a rain forest-like charm.

But Chapel Hill isn't just a pretty face. It's part of the state's Research Triangle, which boasts one of the highest numbers of Ph.D.s per capita in the U.S. The town also houses the nation's oldest public university, and interesting educational opportunities abound.

The main drawbacks? Parts of the downtown aren't in great shape, and some areas feel overrun by students."

LOL

Give me some factual evidence on the lack of quality of an education from UNC. I have yet to see any so i'll just assume that y'all are still hating because you didn't get in 12 years ago

and chapel hill/carrboro is pretty cool. If you've never been to weaver st market check that shit out.

I turned down UNC.

I consider them our rival in sports.

It is a nice town though.

Ditto. Had not interest in UNC. Got accepted at NCSU and Duke, went to NCSU because it was massively cheaper.

Got accepted to both. Went to State. Work at Carolina. Live in Carrboro. Still think I would prefer to live in Cary though, even if it is only #56.

LOL! You mean you don't see rain forest when you think of Chapel Hill?

On a different note, I think a lot of people are missing the point in this thread.

You shat on UNC (which imo isn't indicative of the general nature of chapel hill at all) and provided no additional argument. I get the point of this thread

Chapel Hill is expensive to live in. Nice though. Cary has too many rules.

It is expensive to buy a nice home in CH. It is not expensive to live there.

I'd like to point out that no one gives a shit about MONEY magazine, especially when everyone and his brother has a "Best Places to Live" ranking.

And if you care much about these kinds of rankings, Raleigh has appeared in Forbes and BusinessWeek, and have been doing these kinds of rankings to the best that anyone could.
