I understand that most people barely got Phillip Glass or Reich, but modern music has progressed beyond the limitations of the standards you lesser people are all used to. Mick Barr is basically the greatest guitarist of our generation. I dare you to play anything he writes.

Eddie Brown is the best organist on the planet right now hands down. I would easily put him up against the Los Angeles Church of God in Christ all stars Mike Bereal and NY Style COGIC David Wright.

Seriously, eddie brown is insane. Dude can play any style of music better than anyone else. Honky Tonk, Jazz, Rock organ, Classical, and the dude has perfect pitch.

I guess I just find his guitar playing excessive. I do like is thoughts on writing music which sounds improvised but isn't.

a lot of his stuff is EXTREMELY excessive. The only solo stuff I dig of his is Annwn/Anoint/Absolve. There are some good moments on Sacreth and I dig Krallice obviously. Most of the Orthrelm/Octis/Zach Hill stuff is pretty tough to listen to lol

I haven't listened to much krallice but I live in Brooklyn and they play out around here often.

Also my personal favorite guitar player of the last 20 years would be Nels Cline. He consistently puts out interesting music.

This dude is actually a pretty incredible guitarist, but their live show makes me want to shoot myself. This isn't as bad as when we played with them. It is kind of hard to describe what is good about his playing, its not technically proficient or anything its just very strange. Pretty much never any power chords, the odd meter to even meter trick and constant reuse of ideas in different parts. Somehow he mixes all of that shit together and plays it with a MicroPog / WH4 in a way that makes shit sound rad as fuck

I'm sure. Mick Barr puts out a TON of crap. Ever listen to Mike Lerner's DIREWOLF? That is literally my favorite album and not entirely because of the guitar. The composition is fucking genius. Basically I have a boner for anyone/band with like 2-3 degrees of seperation from Colin Marston.

It is kind of hard to listen to but its one of those things albums that you'll never hear the same parts in. I think i read somewhere that he spent like 7 years on it with all of the drum programming / keyboard parts and vocal harmonies and shit like that. Its like a more listenable mick barr meets ron jarzombek. Mike is the behold the arctopus guitarist.

^Exactly, but Krallice has some of the most complex composition I've ever heard. For example, the solo on Cnestorial. Or on Telluric Rings, there is a section where all of the instruments cyclically go through this round from one riff back and forth into the next. I got over the technical players a while ago and pretty much only listen to music for composition now, because i realized i'd never be the best technical player ever but composition is something that anyone can do given enough ideas
