Deciding on what new phone to get. Things I'd like to have

4G technology
Decent battery life
Global Capable (compatible w/GSM networks)

Droid Razr Maxx does all of that, plus amazon is offering it for $99

But it'd be cool to get the new iphone, and it's what i'd prefer to have. I'm not 100% sure on the global capable part and the battery life of the new iphone, but I believe it should have both. The 4s was global ready. Price is going to be much higher, even with a plan upgrade, and it also isn't available now, prob will be out Oct 5th

This is no brainer Razr Maxx right? I've been holding out for the iphone for so damn long, but $$ wise, I could get 2 razr maxxes and still prob be cheaper than the new iphone. Plus it means i get a phone now and don't have to wait another couple months

my current phone is a nightmare, also close to 4 years old. You'd think treating it nice and never really dropping it or doing dumb shit to it would make it last. Nope.

so you weren't, in fact, complaining that it didn't last, as you indicated in your first post?

The Lumia 900 is $19.99 at Amazon and (as far as I know) you can buy a code for like $20 to unlock it.

what about Samsung Galaxy 3? If you're not an Apple fanboy, then Razr probably will do.

If battery life is your #1 priority then the Maxx is a no brainer.

If not I'd at least wait until the press conference in a couple weeks.

after trying a galaxy nexus - i must say i have not used a better smartphone. no spyware so the battery lasts for days, very good build quality, and the os is updated weekly. buy it straight from google without a contract.

I love my Maxxx. However, once the ICS update hit, my battery life was cut in half (from 2 days to 1 day); others have noted no changes or slight changes. Don't know why mine sucks (comparatively). Still love the phone though.

No, you can't. Unlocks won't be available on AT&T 900's until mid-october. Unlocks are only for non-US 900's currently. It's also a bitch to sim-swap with the Lumia.

I'd wait to see what the new iPhone offers, it's less than a month to wait it out. I don't think you'd go wrong with the Maxx, but who knows, they may price drop it again after the new iPhone launch.

^^ Hate that I might have to agree. I bought my Droid X a couple years ago because I used to have Nextel back when I was swingin a hammer to pay the bills and those suckers could take a beating. So I was incline to go with Motorola for my first smartphone. It seemed stout enough; I unintentionally beat the crap out of it and it took it well, never even cracked the screen. But over the last year stuff just stopped working, stuff that wasn't fixed by a factory reset. I suppose the internals just weren't capable of the same abuse as the screen and chassis

The only shitty high end Motorola handsets are the Droid 1 and the Droid X. (both now out of production)

All others are awesome.
I have had the Droid 1,2,3,4,X & Bionic. Currently using a Droid 4. My wife has a Droid RAZR and loves it, battery life is great with ICS.

All have been great, the only one that gave me problems was the D1, but lots of people had issues with the Droid X.

my atrix was a huge piece of shit too. speaker stopped working, replaced, battery started showing up as "not an official motorola device", replaced, then wifi and bluetooth stopped functioning and the phone would eventually hard reboot.

contrast that to the multiple htc sliders i've had that still slide, still hold a charge, and have been dropped a dozen or more times each.

It depends how you use your phone.

The Razr Maxx is a good phone (with a dumb name).

But the iPhones to date have been setting the trends with each new release. The new iPhone might be the first that doesn't do this, just because the newest Android has pretty much caught up or surpassed iOS5 in every way at this point, but if you wait for the new iPhone or get a nicer android phone now, you'll have a great phone either way most likely.

I should re-state my position. "All the Motorola "DROID" branded devices which are only for Verizon are good devices, can't speak to the phones on other carriers. "

I also had a Motorola Photon on Sprint which was rock solid, just shit battery life.

i know it is a PITA, but if you haven't already, do a factory reset. this was reported to solve most problems/issues, including poor battery life, related to the ICS update on the Maxx.
