i've never been a huge fan of salt on watermelon (or cantaloupe) but i've seen both done. some of the hispanics i used to work with would put chilli powder on watermelon (maybe cantaloupe too, i can't remember). it wasn't bad, but not something i'd want to do regularly.

We cut them off the rind and store in fridge in large tupperware. It's convenient, you can grab one or two ot three on your way out. Sorry BHS
