Apparently she taught the class in Summer II 09. Has anyone had her and do you know if she curves as well as how easy/difficult her exams/final are?

I was just trying to get a better idea of what to expect from her. Things like throwing curve balls on exams can really mess up a final grade...

i didn't have her, but i know a lot of folks who did. they seemed to like her. 310 is pretty straightforward. i wouldn't sweat it.

she's not too bad.. doesn't require turning in any of the homework, but suggests doing it (which is a good idea).

exams are ok, but at least one of them was so long that only a few people left (not sure if others finished) before the time was up.

not sure on the curve thing.

i have no idea who yall know that think nancy moore isnt bad.

she is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had and I would recommend avoiding her at all costs.

I had her for thermo 1 where she would just recite the pre-made slides from the book publisher. Not helpful.

Now I have her for 310 and she just rants all class. She writes so fast that no one can keep up so most people just dont even try. basically I just try to copy the example problems, but she doesnt really do them. She pulls constants out of nowhere and cannot proove them, and multiple times I have gone home and tried to follow her work and found errors.

She also throws "pop" quizzes that are worth 10% of your grade. They are open book andopen note, but she expects things that she never covered in class.

^ Really dude? I don't know who you had and what people you talked to (hell, the people you talked to were probably in my class, and several of the people who posted in the old Study Hall thread sounded like they were in my class as well), but when I had Nancy Moore, everyone hated her. It was a universal hate. It is one of the only classes I really felt that I got screwed out of an education. The only other class that I felt came close was my Fluid Mechanics teacher, though he mainly just fucked me hard.

If I sit down in retrospect and think about the professors I have had, I can only think of 3, maybe 4 professors who were bad.

My Controls professor (can't remember the dude's name, he was a Chinese guy), Nancy Moore, Fluid Mechanics professor (really old dude), and Rabiei. The rest were either good or did a decent job. Maybe they weren't the best. But they weren't anywhere near the incompetency as Nancy Moore.

Those guys were awesome, although Gould was dry. Rabiei was fine, albeit I had a decent grasp of the material so that helped

had Wu for controls. class was a waste of time.

had a new young guy for fluids. don't remember his name. he could've just posted pdfs of the notes online and i would've been better off. went to class just to show face.

She is really the first MAE professor that I feel completely failed as a teacher. well, this semester I got stuck with her and Dr. Xiaoning Jiang for solids 2, who is also a waste of my money.

The worst part is that I wanted to avoid her at all costs after thermo1 with her, but she pulled a bait-and-switch for my session of 310. I believe I was scheduled to have Gould as a prof, but 2 days before the semester started she was assigned.

Working on a project for her now, only worth 10% of my grade, have spent ~20 hours on excel plugging in formulae. fuck that, this is just busy-work. the beneficial part of the project was to derive the equations. typing them in excel 250 times does not help me.

Will be super glad to get rid of her. AFAIK she doesnt teach any 400's

again, this sounds like a typical MAE project. all the theory is right there in the book. you just do tedious excel/matlab/EES work.

Lab reports in 305 and 306 are taught completely different now. Old lab administrator is no longer running things.

Had 305 with weekly individual lab reports that were stupid.

306 under the new admin was much better. weekly group reports that were "short" versions. Actually feel that they were helpful in learning the subjects.

A good example of a MAE project would be Dr Tran's 1st vibrations project. The one I had was a airplane landing and having to determine the results of a bumpy runway on a given landing gear, and then determine how to improve upon the results.

This project required alot of matlab calculations, but not repetitive, redundant, useless busywork.

good to hear that they changed the lab reports. i had the long, ridiculous lab reports for 305, 306, and the controls lab.

i did that same project for Tran. of the projects i was assigned, his were some of the better ones.

I think the "large asian chick with a smartass attitude" was Nancy Ma. She was absolutely worthless. Sometimes she didn't feel like teaching so she would bribe a TA from a different heat x-fer section to cover for her. I think she got fired.
