"Texas and North Dakota campuses cleared by bomb threats Officials at the University of Texas and at North Dakota State University have ordered full campus evacuations after receiving bomb threats.

In a statement, University of Texas authorities said a threat was recevied from a man "with a Middle Eastern accent" at 08:35 (13:35 GMT).

He said he was with al-Qaeda and bombs were set to detonate 90 minutes later, according to the statement.

The University of Texas, Austin, is a sprawling campus in the city centre.

University spokeswoman Rhonda Wheldon told the Associated Press news agencyy all university buildings were evacuated at 09:50 as a precaution.

"Evacuation due to threats on campus. Immediately evacuate ALL buildings and get as far away as possible. More information to come," the evacuation order said.

No bombs have been found, Ms Wheldon added.

Shortly after the University of Texas issued its alert, North Dakota State University issued a similar notice, also saying it had received a bomb threat.

"NDSU is requiring all employees and students to leave campus by 10:15," the university said.

"This includes residence hall students, who, if necessary, should walk to locations off campus. This also includes the downtown buildings and agricultural facilities."

Hopefully just a dumbass thinking he was being funny.

Well it's been almost 3 hours at this point. Hopefully just a threat and nothing serious.

Though I hope that the AP did some time conversion when writing the story up--if a man called at 8:35 Central Time and said the bombs would go off at 10:05 Central Time, you'd think they might not wait until 15 minutes beforehand (9:50) to order an evacuation.

I really doubt somebody with al-Qaeda would actually warn innocent people of his intentions to harm them.

Nonetheless, if it were serious, one would hope they'd evacuated immediately.

Probably a freshman that didn't have his class presentation ready in time for class.

So the call was made at 8:35 with the bombs set to go off at 10:05 and people didn't get out until 9:50? Cutting it a little close don't you think?

^Made me think of the end of Road Trip

A coworker of mine's gf goes to school at University of Texas. They did in fact wait until 15 mins before hand to issue the evacuation.

How often are phoned bomb threats legitimate? The only time I can think of is Centennial Olympic Park. I don't understand why you would call and tell someone you had placed a bomb if you really had. Seems counterproductive.
