i mean, i guess it doesn't particularly irritate me like when people used to say ish or hella, but it does seem like an awkward grammatical construction that's more trouble than it's worth

Yeah no one says that in the American dialect.

But there is a lot of things in American slang that doesn't quite add up either, like "What's up?"
"How goes it?" would be more conceptually accurate, although the grammar behind that is scary haha
