Quote : | "HALIFAX, N.C. — The search for a convicted killer who escaped Sunday morning from a Halifax County prison farm stretched into a second day after overnight patrols failed to find the man.
James Ladd Jr., 51, who is serving a life sentence for two 1980 murders, escaped from the minimum-security Tillery Correctional Center around 10 a.m. Sunday, said Keith Acree, a spokesman for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. A tractor Ladd had been running on the prison farm was found abandoned shortly before noon." |

He was in minimum security because it was really the one-armed man that did it. Possibly the guy in Houston who we now know has been shot and killed. 9/24/2012 10:00:32 AM

Budget cuts?
Maybe he'd be in maximum security if it were a drug charge? 9/24/2012 10:14:18 AM

I thought the same thing when I saw this on the news at Noon. I don't know anything about the Halifax Co. Prison Farm, but I have been to the Guilford County Prison Farm many times. From what I have seen, I am pretty sure that any of those dudes could walk out pretty easily.

lifers shouldn't be sent to prison farms, especially double murderers. why would someone serving a life sentence need rehabilitation?

Because they arent just walking dead, first of all. secondly, many lifers are eventually released. You never know who will be pardoned or found innocent after examination of evidence. Work ethic and industry help counteract the negative effects of imprisonment and contribute to positive mental health. 9/24/2012 3:25:28 PM

Prisons aren't for rehabilitating. They are/should be for protecting the public at large from those who cannot live life without interfering with the rights and safety of others and their property.
And I'm all for having ALL prisoners work for something. Farms, license plates, trash pick-up, road signs, etc. Heck, prisons should take away free weights and provide machine weights, bikes, etc. and turn that work into electricity
Obviously, violent criminals shouldn't be allowed in some jobs, like on a farm where it is easier to jump. 9/24/2012 3:35:54 PM

prisoners get downgraded for good behavior to make room for the latest and most terrible. 30 years is a long time to mellow out.
Regarding the purpose of prisons, your opinion is wrong. Here are the facts.
[quote]Mission and Vision of the Bureau of Prisons
Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Federal Bureau of Prisons to protect society by confining offenders in the controlled environments of prisons and community-based facilities that are safe, humane, cost-efficient, and appropriately secure, and that provide work and other self-improvement opportunities to assist offenders in becoming law-abiding citizens.
Vision Statement The Federal Bureau of Prisons, judged by any standard, is widely and consistently regarded as a model of outstanding public administration, and as the best value provider of efficient, safe and humane correctional services and programs in America.
This vision This vision will be realized when: The Bureau provides for public safety by assuring that no escapes or disturbances occur in its facilities. The Bureau ensures the physical safety of all inmates through a controlled environment which meets each inmate’s need for security through the elimination of violence, predatory behavior, gang activity, drug use, and inmate weapons. Through the provision of health care, mental, spiritual, educational, vocational and work programs, inmates are well-prepared for a productive and crime-free return to society. The Bureau is a model of cost-efficient correctional operations and programs. Our talented, professional, well-trained, and diverse staff reflect the Bureau’s culture and treat each other fairly. Staff work in an environment free from discrimination. A positive working relationship exists where employees maintain respect for one another. The workplace is safe, and staff perform their duties without fear of injury or assault. Staff maintain high ethical standards in their day-to-day activities. Staff are satisfied with their jobs, career opportunities, recognition, and quality of leadership.[\quote] 9/24/2012 3:51:27 PM

I should have known you were incapable of reading comprehension beyond the first sentence. see if you can make it to the end of this phrase:
Through the provision of health care, mental, spiritual, educational, vocational and work programs, inmates are well-prepared for a productive and crime-free return to society.

google norways recidivism rate to see why trying harder to fulfill that mission would probably improve things. That, and society ceasing to impose a second prison sentence on ex cons by refusing to employ or house them.
But you dont want to hear things like that, because you feel safer in the nation with the highest incarceration rate per capita. Safety is still an illusion. 9/24/2012 4:46:03 PM

BigHitSunday Dick Danger 51059 Posts user info edit post |
who the fuck cares about norway?
You need to look up the recidivism rates of felons in Uganda
Its not even about safety with me its about fucking punishment, plain and simple. Punish them. Fuckers serve out their term and thats that, fuck these technicalities, fuck all this good behavior and crap. Do your bid and if you make it out good on you.
And quit letting people rot in death row, kill em within 2 years
