Good premiere.

Is this the beginning of the end?

Quote :
""We wanted the season premiere to feel momentous because this could be the beginning of the last chapter," (Craig)Thomas tells TVGuide.com. "There are negotiations happening, but I don't know how that's gonna go and I don't know when I'll know if there'll be a Season 9. Carter [Bays] and I are really writing the season as if it's the last season and this is how we would start it.""

As much as I've enjoyed watching this show in the past, it needs to end.

really?

^ that's how I feel. All the flashbacks and flashforwards kept things interesting for a few seasons but now they just piss me off. I've lost interest in Ted's story completely. Marshall/Lily are terrible now - hey, they have a kid now so they're super tired! Hilarious! - and Barney sucks when he's involved in a relationship, which it looks like he'll be in for the remainder of the series.

I'll watch because I've watched for so long but episodes really bore me now.

^^^ this. But it's been eight years. No show can go on that long and keep the momentum.

They're finally going to finish the story, and nobody cares anymore.

LOL

It's hilarious to me that this show could cog on for even more seasons. I will continue to watch and wonder what's wrong with me.

I continue to enjoy this show. Last season had an episode or two that was bad, but overall I'm still a fan.

^^unfortunately we know he'll be with Robin soon. And Barnie with Robin is boring. He was way more interesting with Quinn.

Also, Victoria has very saggy boobs.

Tonight was the worst episode of TV I've seen in a long time.

I feel kinda bad for the people involved, but it's impressive that they're all still somewhat committed. I mean, they can sleepwalk through these roles, but they're doing it convincingly with some really terrible material.

this show and the office are perfect examples of why series should not last longer than 4 - 5 seasons. it just becomes down right pathetic. HIMYM used to be really good because it was easy to identify with Ted, a hopeless romantic, who was seeking a soulmate. Plus the show kept you hooked because Ted kept meeting people and you wanted to see how the relationship developed and if that was the mother. But then, out of no where, in season 5, maybe, they introduced cannon that would allow us to identify the mother. Since then it hasn't be as easy to follow along because 1) Ted has transitioned from romantic to annoying and 2) you automatically know all of the plot you're watching is just filler and not involved with the mother at all.

The other thing that gets me is that now all of the characters are caricatures of themselves. Its like some exec read that viewers liked Barney's goofy womanizing, Marshall's Dopiness and Robin's Canadahood and amped it up 1000%.

I can usually put up with some bad episodes for a show I used to like; however, the part of the episode where Lily woke up holding a doll then she and Marshall started bad sitcom screaming at each other was probably the worst thing I've seen on this show. I almost turned it off there.

And many series should end after 4-5 seasons, but some do alright. Scrubs started going downhill around that time, but I mostly blame NBC for pushing the show to be something it was not. When they switched to ABC for the final season, they found their second wind and the show was great again.

Then there are shows like Doctor Who that are very easy to reinvent ever 2+ years.

based on the discussions in this thread i'm not even going to bother watching these until the mother is introduced. sounds like they've been terrible. i didn't even watch all of last season and feel like i missed nothing.

Its like they're being forced to turn the show into a cheesy sitcom. Between the screaming last episode and the game show this episode, the mood of the episodes just seem completely off. And a big at them choosing their friends over living parents as backup guardians.

I'll still watch because I do think there is more good than bad (*think*), but I'm getting more apathetic.

the only woman on that show who has maintained her looks is the one who plays robin (basically victoria and lily have fallen off big).

My TV description says its a new episode, and I don't recognize the plot at all.

However fucking DirecTV didn't broadcast the show in HD, so all I got recorded was a fucking error message saying to switch to SD. Thanks DirecTV, thanks...

Makes sense with several of the nation's largest markets without power and underwater right now. CBS was showing continuous flood images all evening here.

Glad Victoria's gone - talk about going downhill in what was apparently 6 years.

^^^ Victoria isn't gone yet. Ted's little power move where he removed her wedding note and left the groom's wedding note still hasn't been resolved (from what I can tell). They'll drag this on a little longer.

It will probably be an episode where Robin finds out what happened and convinces Victoria to come back. Ted will then find out that Victoria and him are not meant for one another, probably due to the slightly unresolved thread from last season where he acknowledged that Robin was the last person he said "I love you" to before saying it to the actual mother (aka he never says it to Victoria, whom he proposed to).

So Geppetto said this:

and one of my friends IRL that watches says it was barely watchable and I didn't miss anything.

So which is it folks?
