Does anyone watch this show?

The first two seasons were rough, but I think this season was overall pretty good. Getting rid of the star in a reasonably priced car thing was a good idea, as was not having a studio audience. In a few years if the show is doing well, maybe revisit the studio audience thing.

Season 3 Episodes:
Police Cars- Okay, enjoyable
Small Cars- Okay except for the part in the swamp, it was too "haha rednecks"
Cult Classics- Decent
One Tank- Enjoyable
Tractor Challenge- pretty good
Monument to Moab- I liked a lot, although I wish the last part with the cliff was less cheesy (although it was still entertaining)

The guys seem to be developing some chemistry and the show is working a lot better. If you watched the first seasons of Top Gear UK you know it wasn't always good from the start.

I hope that the show gets a bigger budget so they can leave the California area more and I'd really enjoy seeing more budget car challenges.

i would agree on all accounts.

big star small car was a stupid way to do the star in a reasonably priced car segment and they couldn't get any decent stars really.

season 1 was just hard to watch season 2 was like... well there are cool cars in it... i can watch this and fast-forward through studio time... season 3 is pretty good..

keep in mind real top gear doesn't have commercials so the studio time and star in a reasonably priced car segment are more acceptable "breaks in the action"

Yeah, I think having one main segment with a small race at the end is better for american tv that is interrupted with commercials too. In the beginning they tried to follow the UK's version with a few segments that were shorter and only having long ones on special episodes.

One thing i absolutely HATE though they did do in a couple episodes. I think the cult classics episode and somewhere else they added overdubbed radio chatter that was really dumb. It was obvious that it wasn't original, and even when the original stuff is scripted it still comes off more natural than when its obviously overdubbed. The moab episode had good chatter, that if was scripted, came off as natural and I suspect some of it was natural.

^Yea, they are getting better together. I could not stand Rutledge when the show started, and I'm still not a huge fan of him, but I don't hate him anymore. Adam was always okay, and I really like Tanner. I wish they would get him on Top Gear UK as a celebrity guest or have him race UK Stig.

Honestly though, this show has gotten way off from Top Gear UK. Not that its bad because of that. Hell the US Office became really good by finding its own footing and not copying the UK Office word for word, because it would never hold up doing that. But they almost don't even need the Stig anymore on US TG because they so rarely even do power lap times anymore. Regardless, I enjoy it and my kids enjoy watching it quite a bit more because they have more action that is easier to follow by doing one main story for the entirety of the episode.

[no]

This is supposed to be a show about cars. Not three idiots dicking around on farm equipment. And even when they do end up driving cars, the challenges are rarely about the cars and more about how quickly you can load sheep into a hatchback. I guess as far as an entertainment show goes, this show isn't awful, but I'm really sick of how every episode is a "challenge" and they rarely spend any time reviewing, talking about or driving cars that are worth a damn. The UK version is superior in just about every possible aspect (except for I never have been a fan of the big star in a small car segment, the US dropping that was a plus). I miss the Stig driving the supercar of the week, I miss them actually reviewing cars, and as genuinely funny as the US guys are, I would love to see a news segment every week. The challenge episodes only work for me if they're few and far between. This every week thing is getting old with a quickness. Especially when they are competing with tractors and hover rounds.

It's not supposed to be a review show. There's already a motor trend review show and it is boring. This is entertainment about cars and car related things... have you never seen top gear? I bet you're one of the 3 people who think 5th gear is better than top gear.

^^ Although you have to admit, the UK episode where they turned a combine harvester into a snowplow was pretty badass.

Who are you to say what it is and isn't supposed to be? Is the UK version a traditional, standard, 1/4 mile times and measuring lateral G-forces review show, no, it's not. But at least once per episode, they take a car that most people will never be able to afford and put it through it's paces. And they do it in a way that's entertaining. That's interesting to me and I consider that to be a review of sorts.
I was just pointing out that they can review cars without making it boring. There doesn't have to be a choice between entertainment and car related things, and I feel like the US version doesn't get that like the UK guys do. To be honest, after reading your moronic opinions, I should be the one asking you if you've ever seen Top Gear before.

I've never seen 5th gear, from what I've read it doesn't sound like a format that would appeal to me. But nice try in trying to divert my points and make it about personal attacks that have no relevance to what we're discussing.

No, I agree, it made for a great segment. But it wasn't something that was worth wasting an entire episode about. Doing silly stuff like that has always been a great part of the UK version, and it has its place. I'm just saying an entire episode about racing tractors or modifying handicap chairs is pretty dumb. Even for American TV standards.

Not to mention the tractor episode is copying the uk version when they did the same thing. They definitely don't review a car on every to gear uk episode, nope.

Are you disagreeing with me when I say that the UK version is superior to the US version or not?

Do you agree that they rarely review cars, and in the British version comparing 3 tractors they didn't review a car?

Please leave my thread, troll.

Actually, in the episode you refer to, according to Wikipedia they reviewed a Lamborghini Murciélago LP640.

^^In the UK 3-tractor episode they raced the LP640, they didn't review it

To compare, in the US 3 tractor episode they race an Aventador

I wouldn't call either of those review, but if you consider them reviews then realize that they both did it.

So

PWNT

(seriously though, you're dumb and should leave)

"The guys head to rural California and attempt to help a farmer with three of the biggest tractors on the market. It quickly descends into chaos as they try to transport livestock and heavy equipment and complete farm chores. We then review the fastest "tractor" of them all--the new Lamborghini Aventador--and see how its claims stack up in a race against a crop dusting plane."

Firstly, you're dumb if you don't think what they do is a review. Very very dumb. Secondly, I never said the US version didn't have reviews at all. You are trying to change my argument in order to "pwn" me and clearly the only idiot here is you (well, that was true before JBaz showed up anyway). All I said was that the format for the UK version is better in every way, and that the US version is more about trying to entertain than actually provide information about cars. It doesn't actually appear like you are disagreeing with me, so I'm not sure exactly why you have so much sand in your vagina. I thought ignorant people were supposed to be blissful or something?

(seriously though, I'm not going anywhere, I'm having way too much fun pointing out what a retard you are)

I saw a few episodes of Top Gear US, and I thought it was just OK.
Honestly, though, I've stopped watching Top Gear UK as well. For an unscripted show, it was _way_ too scripted (lulz sued by Tesla). The US version had that feel as well, so I didn't really give it a chance.

The new season started Tuesday, they drove a MP4C, Viper, and Gallardo across the US and it was entertaining. I think their chemistry is coming along just fine, I like the show.

I'm a huge car nut, but ironically I have very little interest in this show, and only slightly more in Top Gear UK. Go figure.

I didn't know they changed the name to 12C, but yeah (and I swear I typed MP4-12C, weird)

I can see why hardcore car people wouldn't like either since its more about entertainment than cars (as El Nacho couldn't figure out). My wife loves Top Gear UK and has no interest in cars.

USA version blows, compared to UK version.

USA version taken on its own is fun. We watch both and enjoy both of them for different things. Season 1, where they just ripped off UK Top Gear sucked. Glad they went their own direction with it. If I wanted to see the UK version, I would just watch that instead.

^Yea they have dumped guests, the studio, etc. Instead of just copying UK, they basically just do challenges and shit now for the most part. In that way its pretty damn cool.

Also posting in here made me check out Top Gear UK Series 1 when they did not have May but had Jason Dawes instead. I was shocked to find out that Series 1 is now off Netflix Streaming, but 2-18 are on it. WTF?

^I got into Top Gear about 5-6 years ago because a coworker had that running all day at work on his second monitor. So I caught up pretty quickly by watching it with the family during supper. Can't remember if I streamed or torrent season 1, but either way its quite dreadful. There was still some funny moments though that should not be skipped if you really like the show.

aww...somebody's still butthurt about getting made to look like a fool after a whole year has passed. I'm flattered I had such a long-lasting affect on you.

It's funny you said that I couldn't figure out that it was an entertainment show when literally one of the first things I said was "as far as an entertainment show goes, this show isn't awful,".

My point was (and still is) that the show would be better if they actually mixed in some stuff for gearheads with the entertainment aspect. And this past episode was a pretty good example of them doing just that, and thus was one of the better episodes of the US version. They still seem to struggle finding that line between entertaining and actually talking about cars, but at least they've ditched things like wasting entire episodes driving tractors around.

Thanks for posting a link to one of my finest examples of thoroughly owning someone. The more people that see that the bigger my e-peen gets. But I'm not really sure why it's relevant here. Unless you wanted to discuss how it compares to me owning dtownral in this thread, but, again, I'm not sure that's really the topic at hand.

As to the topic at hand, this last episode sucked donkey balls. I'll bet dtownral fucking loved every second of it.
