So, I bought a gas station breakfast this morning that totaled $3.57. I gave the guy $4.00 cash. He gave me $0.35 change. I started to walk out the store, and then proceeded back to his register when I counted my change. I went back and politely asked for the rest of my change. He gave me a dime and then said, "have a nice day" with a little attitude thrown in.

Was I unreasonable? It's the principle of the matter.

I dont think I would have gone back for that small change. Mistakes happen. Maybe he was just annoyed that you came back for so little change.

Exactly, you a cheap mofo. Never picking up the tab, wait for somebody else to buy a pitcher, eat other people's nachos, yet you work and make the same wage as everyone else that you are out with.

Wages should have nothing to do with splitting a bill.

I barely look at the paper change I get back, much less the shit that jingles.

And no, it's not because I'm a badass. I just don't care.

Yes, pretty unreasonable.

Choose your battles.

That 8 cents cost you more in mental anguish than the 8 cents is worth.

I guess I don't understand what is so hard about making 43 cents change vs 35. i mean for shit's sake, 41 cents is one of each coin. how hard is that to figure out in your head?

would I have gone back for it? probably not

were you unreasonable because you went back for it? no

^^^ agreed.

And just because you want your correct change doesn't mean you're cheap all around. I always pay my fair share of rental car splits and hotel splits and buying rounds of drinks etc. However, when it comes to someone charging my card for more than they were supposed to or not giving me correct change I usually follow up. Just my mentality.

Not unreasonable. A waste of time for the amount of money? Yes, as not only did you walk back for it but then had to make a thread on TWW regarding the matter.

In that amount of time you probably could have found a quarter in your couch and been up $cents.

scotieb24 was the only one who considered he didn't have any pennies and nickels. He could have rounded to the nearest 10 cents in his favor.

and if you said anything about he, he'd give you 10 cents.

but if you ask for the 8 cents, you're a petty douchebag.

So in hindsight, him having an attitude about it makes sense.

This was one not worth choosing. Even out of principle. The poor guy works at a gas station and you are bitching to him about your pennies. Cut him some slack.

Especially in the mornings when it gets so busy and they're trying their best to ring everyone up as quick as they can.

That's usually the case with QuickTrip, not sure anywhere else.

haha it's not really a "battle" to ask for correct change. Pick your battles is true, but that only applies to battles, and asking for your correct change doesn't apply. I mean if the guy said no then I wouldn't pursue it any further because THAT isn't worth it.

I don't count coins when I get them as change.

If you short me, big whoop.

If I gave him $100 for a $3.57 breakfast then yes, I would count and make sure that I got the correct paper currency back.

the cashier may have known he was short a few cents in his drawer, so he was trying to make it up by shorting you a few pennies so he doesn't have a headache later on.
