I searched but didn't see a topic. http://needsupply.com/mens/brands/raleigh-denim wtf is this shit? Let's source some local cotton and support the local economy. We can charge $285.00 for our jeans because they are trendy and hand sewn! 10/15/2012 5:09:06 PM

$285 isn't outrageous for designer jeans, it's definitely on the high end for men's though. And they have a store in New York so it's not all local. Plus they can custom cut and tailor them. 10/15/2012 5:13:30 PM

They can charge that because some things (including quality handmade jeans that fit well and that will last forever and look better as they age) are worth it. There is clearly a market, since they're doing VERY well (having just opened their second retail location in Manhattan). The target demographic doesn't really include people who are content with spending $25 on an ill-fitting pair of Old Navy jeans once or twice a year. 10/15/2012 5:17:16 PM

Damn, I spend around $60-$80 for a pair of jeans from Express and I thought that even that was on the pricier side. I've only actually got three pairs of these jeans but they fit me well and I've worn them for about three years with no issues. 10/15/2012 5:23:21 PM

Raleigh Denim exploits cheap local workers and exports the fruits of their labor to richer markets like Manhattan. It's the same shit Levi does in fucking Cambodia, just at different relative price points.

For the average guy, a 50 dollar pair of Levis that are the proper size cut will be perfectly fine. The nature of luxury goods is that you pay a big premium for that last 2-5% of quality and customization.
I can't justify that kind of purchase, personally. A nice pair of boots or a jacket, maybe, but not jeans.
^Most people seem to wash their jeans every couple of wears. I don't know why, but they do.

Good thing they were smart enough to know not to buy ad space on TWW.
Just because you don't see the value in quality jeans doesn't mean the product is stupid. You're busy laughing about the price point, they're busy opening storefronts in Manhattan.
"The Lytvinenkos collaborated with architectural firm OMA – which also designed Prada’s New York flagship store on Broadway – to design the shop."
Instead of hating on things that you don't understand/can't afford, why not be proud of a fellow NC State grad for being successful? I think it's awesome that there's a store in Manhattan named "Raleigh" but maybe that's just me.

ITT people bitching don't know shit about jeans purchased outside of a Target, or have ever seen what exorbitant prices designer jeans go for. This is going to rapidly approach "my $20 Wrangler jeans are better than blah blah blah" Beasley's fried chicken bitching territory.
It's not for me, but if I could get a job with them I would. I'd love to ride on that cash train.

Yeah, but at least you understand the concept of luxury goods and the kind of product. It's more strange when someone will make the argument for, say, the "buy-it-for-life" attitude with leather shoes, but doesn't understand that same attitude with high quality jeans culture. Like I said, I'm not personally into raw or designer jeans, but I totally understand that viewpoint.
EDIT: ..fuck this is in Chit Chat, not Lounge.

You should definitely be wearing your jeans for awhile between washing.
Even Lucky Brand jeans can be over $200, 7 jeans $150+ range, CoH >$200, AG $150+. Lots of people are willing to spend a little more on jeans that look good and fit well. And no, your cargo pocket hammer loop Structure jeans don't look very good.
Someone mentioned $50 Levi's. Nice wash and cut Levi's are $80-$100

You were defending cargo shorts in that other thread, weren't you? For shame.
My girlfriend wouldn't give a shit if I wore nothing but Target brand cargo shorts and wifebeaters. I just happen to be kind of vain and narcissistic. With that said, I hate paying full retail price for anything. If you're willing to look around a bit, you can put together a better outfit from thrift/consignment shops for less money than you could buying new at somewhere like Old Navy or Target. 10/15/2012 5:41:29 PM

Ronny, I could afford several pairs right now if I wanted. I choose not to because I think it's stupid to spend that much on something that I could get elsewhere for < $50. I doubt anyone would really complement you on them anyways, if that's what you're looking for. 10/15/2012 6:03:06 PM

You're right. The product (jeans) isn't stupid. The price ($100+) is insanely stupid. And people who are willing to spend that much money for jeans are stupid. The owners of the company aren't stupid, just their demographics.

That's the point, these aren't $50 jeans. They're both jeans, but that doesn't mean they're the same thing. A Kia and a Bentley are both cars, but are certainly not the same thing.

I can appreciate quality goods but there's a point at which you move past "the price you pay for quality" and "how much can we get away with charging?"
This thread reminds me of a couple of years ago in Prague. I'm walking around this fancy mall full of high-end stores and there's a Wrangler store selling plain old Wrangler jeans (as in Brett Favre $25 Walmart specials) for upwards of $175. 10/15/2012 6:26:31 PM

I don't know if the price is justified myself, I chose to pay $25 each for two pair of selvedge denim jeans last year and they have served me well and they still look and fit great. They'll be out of style soon enough anyways. I also choose to drink 2 buck chuck, gets you drunk like a $2,000 bottle of wine. Maybe I'm just a cheapskate who would rather fully fund their retirement than run around in a $275 pair of jeans. To each their own.
