I always used to use y'all

for some reason now I feel like it should be ya'll

the only basis I really have for that is that, since it's informal and incorrect to begin with, it kinda sounds like fusing "ya" and "all" together, and so it kind of seems like the apostrophe should be in the middle

if you see it as "you" and "all" together, then it might make more sense to say y'all, but again, since it's not necessarily a widely accepted contraction..


this isn't worth an incredible debate or anything, cause honestly it's fucking stupid

I googled it and read several arguments, mostly against "ya'll" and for "y'all" and it was rather amazing to me how people applied such high importance to a contraction that isn't even technically correct

I didn't go too much further into it because pretty much everyone was saying y'all, and getting butthurt at everyone else for saying "ya'll"

and I was all like LOL ya'll r gay 4 using y'all 2 begin w/

please put forth your opinions/arguments and let me know if I need to switch back to "y'all" for whatever reason

I've just read accounts of that being a possibly the origin of the contraction. yes it's fucking overtly clear that ya isn't a god damn word

that's just what it sounds like when people that say y'all sometimes say it (i.e. southerners)

she said she was actually taught - in school - to use ya'll (in houston, tx). i think y'all makes more sense with the rules of grammar though.
