I thought this was about http://www.violentacres.com
anyway...
I'm not familiar with the context here, so let me see if I understand what's going on. There's this dude on reddit who is mainly associated with some sketchy subreddits; nothing strictly illegal, just questionable. Someone publicly outs his real ID. He gets fired as this becomes public. Some redditors are uncomfortable with the fact that he was outed, see it as a violation of his privacy, think that his termination was unjustified since it doesn't appear that any laws were broken, and are basically bitching about it. Others think that you reap what you sew and he deserved what was coming to him and that he should have expected this because expecting privacy on the internet is a laughable expectation.
Do I have this right? 10/18/2012 12:22:26 PM

pretty much.
despite being a massive troll and moderating some pretty questionable subreddits, he was also pretty popular and helpful to a lot of other redditors. That's part of why they're so up-in-arms about it. That and they just hate doxing in general. 10/18/2012 2:51:10 PM

I'm with Gawker on this one. the reddit community is awfully hypocritical considering the many crusades they have gone on to get people fired / arrested based on grainy youtube videos, second-hand stories, etc.
To steal from Woodfoot, the internet is not Narnia. The things you say and do online have ramifications in the real world. You cannot be an utterly horrible human being online and expect there to be no repurcussions simply because of the perceived anonymity of the internet. 10/18/2012 3:07:14 PM
