Do jobs check your transcripts to look for GPA? I'm considering lying about it to one. 10/19/2012 9:43:14 AM

written into our code of conduct as grounds for immediate termination, it's very explicit, kinda weird.
ie, "falsification of records... including manipulation of grade point average on application for empolyment.. is grounds for immediate dismissal"
i know that i found it weird that only after i started was i required to hand in another copy of my resume, transcript, and bring my diplomas in for some photocopying.
didn't think anything of it at the time, think it's strange now.
it's required for our applications. if it's under a certain point, the resume wont even be accepted.

I don't post it but they always ask. I have experience etc. So if I start responding with the number they want to hear are they gonna request a transcript?

Most won't and will not even request a copy of your transcript. They just confirm your degree as part of your background check. 10/19/2012 10:30:56 AM

why do companies wait on that? i'd think you would want to confirm all that before the job is even offered. 10/19/2012 10:43:37 AM

Background checks are expensive. Most places assume you are telling the truth, so they wait until after you accept an offer before they confirm stuff. 10/19/2012 10:52:13 AM

i was more referring to having to provide a transcript, i understand about the background check though. like you could immediately weed out anyone being deceitful in that regard by requiring the transcript as part of the application process.

they did the background check after i accepted the offer and before my first day of work. maybe i'm remembering wrong and i had to mail a sealed transcript to the background check company. i don't really remember. 10/19/2012 10:58:19 AM

It varies by company/institution. I have had 3 entry level jobs, and NONE asked for a transcript or GPA and all my offer letters clearly stated that it was contingent on a successful background check which included criminal, education, references, drugs testing, and medical check up.

That's one way, or the agency that you use for a background check will include it in the package.

No they are not. For an individual probably, but a company, $15-25. That's a very low cost considering they are paying you thousands of dollars per year.
I also wanted to say this, I have applied for a job, and it was required that your upload a scanned copy of your diploma or a copy of your transcript before they would considered your application completed.
Basically, it varies, only submit what it required is my advice, no more or less.

Haha, ok. Look up any reputable background checker company and you will see they offer ALL the things I just mentioned as part of their services. Tell them that they are lying.
For example

https://www.castlebranch.com/content/services/01_employment_screening/05_verifications/03_education
https://fasttrack.talentwise.com/employment-background-check.html?refers=4918&adword=&trackit=264
Quote : | "This search also includes SSN trace, address history, a nationwide search of the National Sex Offender Registry, and the option to add a Federal Criminal Search, Education Verification, Employment Verification, and Paperless 5-Panel Drug Screening." |
Looks janky to me.

I'll put it this way:
1) NC State does not verify your GPA with anyone without your explicit consent by filling out a transcript request form.
2) I know of an individual who, in desperation and based on the above, went as far as to forge their transcript with photoshop and submitted that to the potential employer. They were hired under the assumption of this GPA and then performed very well within the company and promoted many times over the last decade. However, if it were to get out they would definitely lose that job, regardless of the performance history. 10/19/2012 12:03:47 PM

That's impressive. I guess the employer didn't ask for a transcript with the pressed University "seal". I know my law school did. Can't imagine being able to doctor that one. 10/19/2012 12:09:13 PM

Similar to someone above, the employer just asked for a version to be scanned in within 24hrs. What took him the most time was going through and making sure the math added up to get the GPA he posted. 10/19/2012 1:51:35 PM
