My prediction is that we'll just hear Romney complain all night. He has no foreign policy experience. He made the mistake of picking a running mate who doesn't provide any to balance him out either (I guess because he was so desperate to use the running mate to define him domestically after being all over the map). He has nowhere to go, other than to complain most of the night.

^^Oh wow, that took some really deep insight.

I was under the impression Obama was letting Romney job-shadow.

so what you're saying, Jake, is that 4 years ago, Obama shouldn't have been elected, either, because he had no foreign policy experience either...

Yea, the whole "Romney has no FP experience" doesn't fly with Obama. He's had the job 4 years and still doesn't know what he's doing with the international community.

i mean, really, Obama genuinely thought that he would come in to office and all of America's PR problems would be over because dubya was gone.

then when he got into office, he slowly realized that people weren't going to bow down to him like they did in college simply because he was black, and he was gonna have to actually do something. And what did he do? Basically exactly what Dubya did or would have done, even going so far as to use Dubya's exact pre-negotiated timetable for withdrawing from Iraq, partly because his negotiators bungled the talks so badly. For a guy that ran on offering a change from the previous administration, Obama has been the mirror image of Dubya and his foreign policies in damned near every respect.

About the only thing Obama's done right with regards to foreign policy is to give the order to kill OBL, and in even that case, he pissed off Pakistan something fierce with it. If I were Obama, I wouldn't be hanging my hat on anything foreign policy related.

Did Romney just say the democratically elected president of Egypt is to be considered a foreign policy failure because he's too Muslim? Rather than viewing more democracy as a success?

Iran has been "four years closer to a nuclear weapon" since '88.

More democracy in the middle east would not be a good thing, as many there would simply vote to kill each other. Us trying to push "democracy" in the middle east is doomed to failure and more bloodshed

The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back.
(referring to Romney saying Russia is our main foe, not Al Qaeda)

Hard to take a debate like this seriously when they both have the same foreign policy.

Send billions in aid to other countries leaders to spend on their life of luxury, blow shit up, and use the "War on Terror" to advance their agenda of revoking US Citizen's rights.

If they want to "debate" anything shouldn't they at least bring someone who takes the other side?

Romney doesn't seem to be able to remember what he's said from one month to the next. It's no surprise that he gets upset when someone else does.

/classic side effect of dementia, btw

This debate will hinge on how Romney can "twist" the foreign policy issues back to domestic issues. Because the president is certainly going to be able to handle him on these issues, as most incumbents would.

You mean the foreign policy of a decade that included no major theater wars and no mass troop casualties?

Why would Romney go back over things he said previously - he knows every media watchdog is just waiting to fact check what he said.

CNN I believe it was and maybe other news agencies have been talking earlier about how these kind of activities would play, and thought specifically it would not go over well with women voters. That seems a little broad brush though.

Fox News said the same thing about how "aggressive " Obama was in the 2nd Pres debate.

Apparently women voters vote based on who they would pick during a speed dating session.
