Touchscreen dpad + buttons sucks balls. I've plaid virtually every remake for any console that has a controller (sorry ladies, I'm taken) but fuck that shit on an iPhone.

It's aged horribly, but the characters are still quite engaging. If they did a current gen console remake with a reworked (i.e. non-random battles) system + save whenever you want it could be pretty cool. The fact of the matter is, however, that FFVII lives at a corner case of the worst of technologies and game mechanics so despite the nostalgia factor it's pretty trying to play through in 2012.

there shouldnt be a save anywhere function added to games that werent save anywhere before

part of the nostalgia is getting to that save point right before you knew shit was about to go down

btw: the rpg offerigns on iphone are awful ive been through about 20 of them and they all keep me interested for about 5 minutes

theyre either all Zelda like, text-type RPGs, or those damned 3d "expansive RPGs that basically tell you nothin more than "go here, kill this guy, come back...gain level"

or the worst the hoard smashing, run through and collect fallen loot...auto upgrade equipment and auto sell your old EQ until you get to the end of the cave and collect the big box of treasutre and teleport instantly back to the town you got the "quest" from

i want some good rogue type old school RPGs, or ones with a story and diverse towns with NPCs that actually say intersting things or actually affect gameplay. Difficulty!

damn what a rant

Start looking for "Rogue" or "NetHack" or "Slash'EM" or "Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup"; all of these are classic roguelikes (originally text-based, although tilesets are available for all), and the related games are mostly roguelikes or remote-access agents to join servers on which some roguelikes are played.

You could also look through this list; try POWDER or Pitman: http://roguebasin.roguelikedevelopment.org/index.php?title=List_of_handheld_roguelikes#iPhone_cell_phones

I'm playing FF3 (Japanese 3, not American 3) on my tablet and it's actually pretty cool. I like being able to tap the enemies I want to attack instead of using a d-pad for menu selections. The directional controls take a bit of getting used to, but it's pretty damn good.

shes certainly the most popular with porn advertisements

I always thought Selphie from FF8 was the most spunky and fun female character

i think ff8 is underrated, it just had an extremely bland main character and the characters were too normal looking.

Haven't touched Chrono Trigger yet. I don't mind the touch controls too much, though, since it's all turn-based.

FF8 was the best imho.

Triple Triad was also the best minigame.

ugh, FF8 was terrible. At least FF7 had snowboarding and submarine battles.

I hated all the rest. Really, every one of them.

Ff8 was great because the kindred leveled with you, you had to fight your junctions to get em, and I'm one of the only fans that liked the salary

I also enjoyed the academy based story line, and the bosses were freak in awesome

It's just the main characters were like a fraternity crew

I would actually love to play that again over any other title

I had final fantasy iii on my galaxy3 several months ago (still do actually), and it played perfectly like a real deal console. Good graphics (better than SNES), no delay, fun play... I just got stuck at a point where I wasn't leveled up high enough to go on any further and didn't feel like going and dicking around to get to that point. that was once I got to the under world, fwiw
