http://www.businessinsider.com/disney-buys-lucasfilm-for-4-billion-2012-10

Quote :
"Disney announced today it will buy Lucasfilm for $4 billion in cash and stock.

George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars franchise and CEO of Lucasfilm, owns 100% of the company.

Even better: A new Star Wars movie, Episode VII, will debut in 2015. More Star Wars feature films are planned after that."

In all honesty I don't really have feelings one way or the other at this point. The first three were generally pretty bad (3rd was alright). I'm not that excited for a new Star Wars film, but I doubt Disney could do much worse than Lucas did on 1-3.

Is businessinsider reputable?

To me it seems like the bleacherreport of the business world to me.

Also I'd like to mention, even if this is true, Disney ownership has been fantastic for Marvel.

I, for one, welcome our new Disney overlords. They can't fuck things up any worse than George Lucas already did for Episodes VI, I, II, and III.

^^It was a decent movie and by far the best of the first 3. I think it could have been better if it was part of a different handling of the I-II-III trilogy though.

Star Wars episode 7 - directed by Joss Whedon

Ponder that for a moment

My biggest concern for this is that any future movies retain the EU canon established by the books. Hell, maybe they are going to go into the Thrawn trilogy or something. I know Lucas didn't personally give a shit about learning the EU, but he at least respected it and did not screw with it.

^^So did a lot of Lucas's own movies.

They will totally restore my faith if they will green light a new X-Wing or TIE Fighter game.

They have done great with Pixar and Marvel movies, so I will be cautiously optimistic about this.

Disney involved?

Star War VII directed by Tim Burton.

It'd still be better than what Lucas would throw out there. Hopefully Disney would keep him far away from any new Star Wars properties.

KOTOR could actually make a good movie or two (trilogy would be overkill)

Any star wars is better than no star wars. I don't understand how fans can get mad about movies being made. You don't have to watch it. Makes no sense.

Disney would need to negotiate with Paramount for the rights to any future Indiana Jones movies.

I don't think the film industry is even capable of doing just two movies. If there's enough material for more than one movie you're all but guaranteed that they'll force a trilogy. People love to round things out to trilogies.

I don't understand people's distrust with Disney. I haven't seen a Pixar movie I've disliked yet. They are masterful storytellers. They also know they have a tough crowd to please, so rest assured that this will be well executed.
