The first one takes care of the vast majority of countries; of the 186 countries that are members of the World Health Organization, 104 have health care at least as "socialized" as the U.S. Sadly, this means you may have to sacrifice some quality. There's no great metric for health care quality, but WHO's disability-adjusted life expectancy (DALE) gives a pretty general feel for how well the system in a country is doing. The 104 "socialized" countries have an average DALE ranking of 59th and include 47 of the top 50 and 90 of the top 100. The bastions of free health care enterprise have an average DALE ranking of 140th. I've eliminated them from the list for you, too. 2. After eliminating any country with a Muslim population higher than 0.8%, 23 countries remain. 3. After eliminating countries with those pesky civil rights for gays and lesbians, 3 countries remain. To be generous, I'll throw in Swaziland, which currently has no law against female same-sex conduct, but totally wants one, and Papua New Guinea, who doesn't appear to explicitly outlaw lesbian conduct, but might do so de facto. It's not entirely clear. 4. Of these remaining five countries, none are fully communist, socialist, Marxist, or Nazi, but Saõ Tomé and Principe's parliament is 32% socialist. That of the Solomon Islands is about 11.6% various socialist/labour parties. I couldn't find anything specific about the breakdown of Swaziland's parliament, and as they're a monarchy it might not mean much anyway, but four of their nine major parties are socialist, and one is nationalist, so to be safe, let's axe them, too. 5. That leaves you with the following countries, all of which have less socialized medicine, fewer Muslims, fewer GLBT rights, and fewer elected NaziMarxiCommuniSocialists than the U.S.: - Papua New Guinea (DALE 145th) - Samoa (DALE 97th) It's a tough call. On the one hand, Papua New Guinea has a pretty terrible health care system, but on the other, the system in Samoa has an incredibly limited capacity and frequently has to outsource major surgeries and treatments to unacceptably socialist nations. They're also both less-than-ideally anti-gay; Papua New Guinea might or might not allow lesbians to have sex, and Samoa is in the process of decriminalizing all same-sex conduct. Both are overwhelmingly Christian—more so than the U.S., in fact—so there's that. Incidentally, if you know of any confirmed NaziMarxiCommuniSocialist elected officials in Papua New Guinea or Samoa, do let me know.
