May be taking a job out there (knock on wood) next year, and I'd like to know about the area

What regions of VA offer a reasonably clean commute to Newport News Shipbuilding (i.e. do the tunnels/bridges from mainland get parked at rush hour or is it good to go)? What areas around the shipyard should I consider for residency? I'd ultimately like to buy a house with some property but my first place will probably be a rental until I learn the area

Anyway, what's up with that part of VA?

All tunnels and bridges suck fat dong during rush hours, and can randomly get backed up at other times too. I lived and worked in Norfolk for awhile, so I can't say much for Newport News, but stay away from a bridge/tunnel commute if you can.

I'd try to live in Williamsburg, or right around there, so your commute won't involve using the tunnels, or the shitstorm of 64/464/664 around Norfolk and into Hampton.

Newport News has its shit spots, but there are some areas that have become REALLY nice..same with Hampton.

But seriously, try to get a place in Williamsburg, or somewhere in between.
