I mean, I'd let this guy babysit my kids when he offered unsolicited. Chalk it up to bad luck, I guess.

Sick
But I don't see how little kids could get butt raped like that and the parents not notice any physical damage or the kids not rat them out. Seems like he babysat them multiple times. 11/16/2012 10:51:26 PM

Several of the sentences were very difficult to read.
He needs to be killed with a cheese grater... or simply throw him from a rocky cliff.
What is wrong with people? Dont' they read the news? How can they let a grown (COMPLETE STRANGER) man babysit their small kids, especially if he offers himself completely unsolicited?
Lastly, the saddest thing here is that those poor kids are pretty much ruined for life, especially if they were 5 or older when it happened, as they would remember it for life. Feelings of shame, guilt, and low self-esteem are pretty much a given, but sadly, it might also turn some of the victims into child molesters themsleves 11/17/2012 3:57:22 AM

They can always spin this to make them feel special.
"That man had a magical jesus penis. It hurt because he was exorcising the demons out of you. You are one of the most special kids in the world to get the magic jesus penis. But you have to be a good Christian and never ever brag to other kids about this. They may get jealous!"

I think raping kids is horrible and all, but personally I'm not nearly as repulsed/enraged by it as everyone else in the world seems to be. For me it is just a rather bad crime: no worse, say, than cheating somebody out of their life savings.
I am pretty sure this lack-of-repulsion-to-child-rape stems from the fact that I myself was molested when I was 5 or 6. So I guess being molested really does fuck a kid's psyche up, because for one thing, it destroys his natural repulsion to a thing which virtually everyone else views as abhorrent. I'm sure it also fucks you up in a lot of other ways. But I've always been a very odd guy, so it's difficult to say which flaws in my character come from the child molestificationing, and which are just innate.
I guess, in summary, molesting a child fucks him up so much that, among other things, he is prevented from even hating the person who raped him. So you people are probably right to execrate this scumbag and wish him dead. 11/17/2012 6:51:12 PM

is that true in all cases? even a majority of cases? i would say no. i bet the vast majority of victims hate their abusers/rapists.
what about you? don't you hate whoever molested you? if someone cheated you out of your life savings, wouldn't you hate them?! 11/18/2012 4:06:18 AM

^^ yes, of course I hate him...but there's also a lot of shame involved. you feel like the person has gotten the better of you, defrauded you, and that you're a sucker. if I saw the guy on the street today, I wouldn't go up and beat the shit out of him; I'd be ashamed to meet him, despite the fact that he should be ashamed to meet me.
Of course all this is happening on some deep Freudian level of which I am scarcely conscious; but examining my feelings carefully, they seem to run along these lines.
I dunno how much of this is specific to me, and how much is the textbook normal reaction; but a couple years ago I dated a chick who had been raped as an adult, and she felt pretty much the same way about her rapist. 11/18/2012 11:28:42 AM

Speaking in terms of very broad and obvious categories, there are really two kinds of child predation, one that involves physical pain and one that doesn't. As far as I can get from your writing, your experience was the latter.
If someone takes advantage of children and doesn't physically harm them, it tends to lead to confusion and slowly over time, a feeling of being deceived and shame. This is common among a large number of cases. Actually, a common cause for shame is the victim's feeling that the experience should have felt bad, but it didn't. They may have "enjoyed" it themselves at the time, but I use that term cautiously because they were introduced to adult intimacy deceptively.
I would estimate the minority of cases where physical harm or force comes into play (the 'Sandusky' kind of cases) are somewhere around 10%. While they comprise the minority of cases, they make up the majority of talk we hear about it. The media finds these cases easier to talk about because they're so clear cut, but this actually has the unintended consequence of intensifying the shame that the 90% of victims of more mild cases feel. They often feel weird that they were complicit (or at least felt that way) in their experience, even though those comprise the majority of cases.
The article in the OP seems to indicate that they discovered a "90% case" from tips from children, but then found documentation of extremely violent cases. The outrage, as always, will cause a certain amount of confusion among victims. Our popular media loves these stories because they're so clear cut. No one disagrees about how we should feel about a 'Sandusky' case, and it doesn't make the reader feel uncomfortable themselves. They more they can be repulsed by these cases, the more they can ignore the much larger gray area.
