I don't know that it's "racist" in the strictest sense of the word, but it's obvious that it's purposefully intended to be insensitive. Plus, Bob on G105 is pretty open about his racist points of view.

Anyway, I'm just saying...if you wanna tow a black man behind your truck, it's probably not the best idea to identify him by his race and call him Tyrone the Black Anything.

For me at least, it's more the fact that they tried to get a rise out of people by doing something this stupid in the city Christmas parade. It doesn't really matter who is hanging from the tow truck... the whole idea is just dumb.

I don't find it very funny, but it's just low brow comedy for people with a poorly developed sense of humor. Because the last thing you think of when you think of the black male in America is "Christmas Fairy". It adds to the contradictory image which is the basis for the comedic effect. It's not an insult to black people any more than a "Football Player Ballerina" would be an insult to football players. Like I said before, it's just silly low brow comedy.

If you search for a reason to be offended every time someone references your race you will surely find it. Any white person who watches The Daily Show or similar forms of entertainment should be well aware of this.

The Independent is just pushing people's easily pushed buttons with this article. Replace the word "hanged" in the article's title with the word "suspends" and it takes a completely different tone. They know exactly what they're doing.

I see your point. I think the distinction in my mind comes from Tyrone performing his act in front of the public versus actors working from a script in front of a camera. It becomes much more real when you see a grown man acting like a fool in front of your own eyes. Plenty of people enjoy it as evidenced by the number of comedians whose whole act seems to be centered around how shitty their life is or how incompetent they are. I get it, but I personally only enjoy it in small doses.
