I'm assuming that you all have heard about the worker who passed away when the trench collapsed on Centennial today. Please be sure to pray for his family and friends during the holiday week.

Also as Jimmy V said, "...everyday you should spend some time in thought." Think about what you are thankful for and never ever take that for granted!

Let us pray

Our saucer which art in a colander, draining be Your noodles. Thy noodle come, Thy meatballness be done on earth, as it is meaty in heaven. Give us this day our daily sauce, and forgive us our lack of piracy, as we pirate and smuggle against those who lack piracy with us. And lead us not into vegetarianism, but deliver us from non-red meat sauce. For thine is the colander, the noodle, and the sauce, forever and ever. Ramen.

Hail meatsauce, full of beef. The Spaghetti Monster is with you. Blessed are you among sauces, and blessed is the spice from your shaker. Heated meatsauce, monster of taste, pray for us non-pirates now and at the hour of our hunger. RAmen

Our pasta, who art in a colander, draining be your noodles. Thy noodle come, Thy sauce be yum, on top some grated Parmesan. Give us this day our garlic bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trample on our lawns. And lead us not into vegetarianism, but deliver us some pizza, for thine is the meatball, the noodle, and the sauce, forever and ever. RAmen.

Our beer, Which art in barrels. Hallowed be thy name, I will be drunk, At home as I am in the pub. Give me today gallon, Forgive me my spillage, As I forgive those who spilleth against me. Lead me not into temptation Of poncy wine testing And deliver me from alco-pops For mine are the hops The yeast and the barley For ever and ever. Barmen.

hate if for the guy and his family and friends, but i think it's disrespectful for you to assume that i pray. and why this guy? thousands of people die every day. wonder how many Palestinians were crushed today?

but kudos for being a nice guy and thinking of the worker and his loved ones.

I don't care whether you pray or not, you do your own thing, but this is still America where over 75% of Americans are Christian. I can still say what I please on the situation and this is still One Nation Under God.

This thread just screams, hey look at me, I read the news and I now care about this one guy and I'm religious too.

This tragedy has already been brought up in 2 threads and we don't need a directive to pray.

Then why does your OP say "be sure to pray".... and since you went all "America is Christian", then fuck off.

One nation under god was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in the 50s to counter communism.

From wikipedia:
Quote :
"The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy (1855–1931), who was a Baptist minister, a Christian socialist,[3] and the cousin of socialist utopian novelist Edward Bellamy (1850–1898)."

Your pledge of allegiance is a socialist idea, bud. It's more American to not say it.

he didnt "pass away" he got fuckin smashed

"passing away" is something you do at the end of a long, full life with no more strength in your body.

Swimming across the border and dying at work undocumented does not meet that requirement.

I was actually on Centennial on sunday taking pictures for an erosion/sedimentation presentation and was looking at some trenches, etc so this is kinda weird for me.

I guess they weren't using shoring boxes. I forget what OSHA mandates but I'm pretty sure anything 4 feet and deeper requires shoring boxes to be used.

A trench box is one possible method, But not the only way to do it. they were using a trench box but from where the rescue people were working the deceased person may have been working outside of it. It also looks like the trench box was not above ground surface as required (18") so it's possible dirt came over the top, but its hard to tell from the picture areas.

From the pictures I saw on WRAL, they had protection in place, however the failure occurred between the trench protection and the ditch wall. Trench boxes are technically shields though, not shoring. Shoring imparts force on the ditch bank.
