This is the best move for us and Dave over the short term. Long term I dunno, we're probably both screwed either way.

Gotta give Dave credit. Boys were ready to play without Chubb. Game was never in doubt. 9-4 (6-2) with wins over FSU, Louisville, Arizona State. If we stay at this level I think all of us would be really pleased.

"To this end, I looked at how many of a teams all acc performers are gone (seniors only, not including early entry)

Cuse 100% (5 players all seniors)
Lou 12/7 (although prob safe to assume Lamar is gone) Alexander gone
Wake 4/12 (4/6 from 1st/2nd)
UNC 1/4 (can't expect them to have as many injuries next year either) Not allACC but Jr LB Smith gone
FSU 1/6 (derwin IS gone? Plus they get francois back right?) also Jr DE Sweat, not allACC
BC 3/9 (all from 3rd/hon)
UVA 2/7 (only 2 1st's)
Clem 34/18!! (pray for early entries) OG Hearn gone

Wake and UVA also have senior qb's. Everyone else brings back a qb that played this year (pitt is weird since Browne is a Sr but qbs that faced us and qb that beat Miami come back).

Obviously there are other factors but I think I agree with the post except that UVA might get worse losing qb and two best players.

We on the other hand are 4/11 and our QB comes back.

Edit: big 12 isn't out yet but WVU is 5/15, gets their qb back and 2 of their big 3 wrs (all had at least 978 yards) but lose their 1000 yd rusher (Grier and Sills def back)"

Seven players drafted, setting a school record. Five of the seven were rated as three stars coming out of high school. Props to DD and especially Thunder Dan.

I like how Orgeron hired Noel Mazzone as his first OC at Ole Miss and fired him after one season and then did the same with Canada.

Also, this may not be related, but Orgeron is a terrible coach.

i seem to remember there being some talk about Canada and DD not getting along or not being on the same page while Canada was here. and the Canada was "hard to work with"...maybe sour grapes, maybe something to it, maybe some of both.

He is not in trouble of getting fired, has the best ACC streak for State since Lou Holtz. However, that is two years in a row that we got ranked only to get crushed on the road against a higher ranked team (Notre Dame last year) which is a little troubling. In his halftime interview he said he told the team, "That wasn't us". After the second half, maybe it is.

We could've lost by a touchdown today and felt better about our team and fallen less in the polls, but it's still a loss. How we look next week is more important than how we lost today.

^My sentiments exactly. The way we lost was pretty painful but we didn’t stand much of a chance yesterday. Hanging the success or failure of this season on the outcome of a road trip to #3 Clemson is an overreaction. We’re 5-1 and favored in the rest of our games, let’s see how it plays out.

He is certainly improving the talent on the team, especially with this recruiting class. If he can make it where the #1 guys in NC like Quavaris Crouch end up at State every year we’ll start getting close to Clemson level talent and possibly even surpass them. At one point they were not the recruiting juggernaut that they are now.

Clemson recruiting class rankings since 2000 (according to Scout/247)
2000 - 33
2001 - 19
2002 - 29
2003 - 43
2004 - 44
2005 - 15
2006 - 14
2007 - 16
2008 - 9
2009 - 36
2010 - 27
2011 - 10
2012 - 20
2013 - 15
2014 - 16
2015 - 9
2016 - 11
2017 - 16
2018 - 7

The fact that they haven’t had a Top 5 recruiting class seemingly every year like Alabama and OSU, yet have been their closest competition is kind of impressive and shows the ability for developing talent that their coaches have.

Not anytime soon, but NC is a larger state with a larger pool of talent. Anyone who could actually lock down top NC recruits on a consistent basis could theoretically build a powerhouse full of 5*, 4* and highly rated 3* players. Mack Brown was maybe the only one that came close to doing this, going 10-3 in 1993, 10-2 in 1996, and 11-1 in 1997. Few will be hung up on the Clemson loss if we could finish 10-2 or 11-1 in the regular season this year, which we could do given how down the ACC is this year. Start stringing together a few 9 and 10 win seasons and we might start keeping those top players home on a consistent basis.

I mean, getting crushed on the road vs a higher ranked opponent isn’t encouraging. But I’m not sure how “troubling” it is to lose to a team that was 17+ point favorites and a likely CFP team. Yeah there’s no positives to take from this game. But we were multi-score underdogs because clemson is that good. And idk what the line was last year vs ND, but my point is...if ranked Kentucky or Miss State went on the road and got stomped by Bama you wouldnt be shocked. Because Bama is a machine. You wouldn’t think “That’s a troubling loss for Kentucky”.

To me what might be more troubling is if we were getting stomped at home vs higher ranked opponents like that. At home with the rowdy atmosphere...that’s kinda where you hope to pull the upset...last year vs clemson would’ve been a great spot for that. Separately what would be troubling is letting this loss carry over to next week. Still have a legit shot at 10+ wins and 7-1 conference record.

I’m not trying to excuse the loss or excuse the margin. We were stomped and it was never close for a second. And I would hope that this isn’t the apex of NC State football. Surely we can strive for more and be better. Maybe I’m totally wrong. But my opinion of where we’re at isn’t vastly different than it was on Saturday before kick off

did you not watch the game? we didn't look good

you could have expected to lose and not cover the spread and still find that game troubling

I bet clemson would be favored by at least a td over anyone in the the country not named Alabama (and Bama might be favored by a td over clemson!)

Clemson is really good. The one thing they couldn't do consistently last year is throw down the field, they've clearly solved that

I would have said before the year started this Cuse game is the most important one on the schedule. Factoring in a loss at Clemson, now you go play an improving Cuse team who is 5-2. Dave wins this one, he should have goodwill with the whole fanbase. Truly think this game is going to decide if we have a good season or a historical season.
