So, just to be clear, I guess Alejo is still the Assistant Athletics Director for S&C and oversees the entire S&C for the entire Athletic Department, as well as the day-to-day efforts of the b-ball team?

AD Debbie Yow was quick in her strike to obtain Doeren. It's difficult to argue Doeren's success in sustaining and lifting Northern Illinois' brand after taking over from Jerry Kill. The Huskies were 23-4 with Doeren in charge, even if it's sort of unfair that they'll now have to play the school's first BCS game, the Orange Bowl against FSU, without him.

A Kansas native, what's concerning about Doeren is that he has no direct ties to the area or league. We've seen that work on lower levels but rarely at a BCS level. Let's face it: Doeren would have made a lot more sense -- a lot more -- at Wisconsin. The fact he'll be coaching the Wolfpack next season and not the Badgers has a lot to do with timing, whether anyone admits that or not.

That said, it doesn't completely preclude Doeren from success at NC State, which has a fair commitment and recruiting base. Matt Canada's addition as the offensive coordinator is big for Doeren; Canada was with Doeren in his first year at NIU before going to Wisconsin. Doeren's defensive background dictated that he would need a strong offensive guy, and Canada fits the description."

whats wrong with the 4-3? too easy for opposing qb's to identify the mike? would rather have more blitzing 3-4 linebackers and get gashed for inside runs?

Dick McNutt

Quote :
"Raleigh, N.C. -
NC State head football coach Dave Doeren has made another addition to his coaching staff, announcing today that Richard McNutt has been named cornerbacks coach. McNutt spent the past two seasons with Doeren at Northern Illinois, where the Huskies won back-to-back MAC championships.

“Richard is one of the most aggressive and talented recruiters I’ve been with,” said Doeren. “He is also a great technician at the corner position. He played it at Ohio State and worked with Mel Tucker, one of the best DB coaches in the NFL. He has great knowledge and is very detailed with how he applies that to his players. He holds them to the highest standard on the field.

“Richard has been at the highest level of collegiate football, playing on a national championship team at Ohio State and also working in the NFL, so he brings a lot of expertise to our players. He relates well to the guys.”

The Northern Illinois secondary showed considerable improvement in its second season under the direction of McNutt. In 2011, Northern Illinois ranked 89th nationally in passing defense, but improved to 41st in 2012 giving up 217.7 yards through the air per game. The Huskies also improved in interceptions, ranking 43rd in 2011, but improving to 23rd this past season with 15 on the year.

Prior to his stint at NIU, McNutt spent two seasons as the defensive backs coach at Kent State, where the Golden Flashes boasted the No. 1 total defense in the MAC in 2010 and ranked second in the league in pass efficiency defense. McNutt was also involved with coaching the special teams units at Kent State.

The Park Forest, Ill., native spent the 2008 football season on the staff of the Cleveland Browns, where he coached the safeties, assisted with the defensive backs and served as assistant special teams coach. The Browns ranked second in the NFL in interceptions with 23 that season. In 2007, he served as the secondary coach at the University of Toledo (2007) and spent the previous year as defensive backs coach at Virginia Military Institute (VMI).

McNutt began his coaching career under his collegiate head coach, Jim Tressel, as a student assistant coach at Ohio State in 2003 after completing his playing career for the Buckeyes. During that time, he assisted with the cornerbacks and special teams and was a member of the staff that led OSU to an 11-2 record and a victory in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

“I would like to thank Coach Doeren and Debbie Yow for the opportunity to join the Wolfpack Family,” said McNutt. “I am very excited to continue building on the foundation that has been set and I look forward to mentoring and developing our secondary here at NC State.”

Immediately after earning his undergraduate degree from Ohio State in 2004, McNutt began his coaching career as varsity defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator for the junior varsity team at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. He helped the Presidents to a 12-1 record and the third round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs in 2004, as Washington & Jefferson ranked second in the nation with 26 interceptions. W&J posted a 9-2 record and advanced to the playoffs in 2005.

As a player, McNutt was on the Buckeye squad that won the 2002 National Championship with a perfect 14-0 record. He was a three-year letterwinner for OSU and played in every game for Ohio State in both the 2000 and 2001 seasons; he started the first six games of 2002 at cornerback before he was sidelined by injury.

McNutt signed with Ohio State after a stellar prep career at Rich East High School in Park Forest, Ill. He was named one of the top five cornerback prospects in the country that year. He and his wife, LaToya, have three children.

“We are happy that Richard and LaToya are going to be a part of the Wolfpack family,” Doeren continued. “We welcome them and their sons Devon and Trey and their daughter Nya to Raleigh.”"

"Raleigh, N.C. -NC State head football coach Dave Doeren has announced that Mike Uremovich, a former collegiate head coach, will coach the offensive line for the Wolfpack. Uremovich spent last season as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator for Doeren at Northern Illinois.

“Mike brings experience as a head coach, an offensive coordinator, an offensive line coach and a special teams coordinator to us,” said Doeren. “He is a tireless recruiter and a great family man and he is probably one of the best technicians I’ve been with from a run blocking and design standpoint. We’re really excited about what he brings to the table offensively.”

In his lone season at Northern Illinois, the Huskies finished ninth in the nation in rushing offense, averaging 250.2 yards per game, and ranked 15th in total offense. The Huskies also finished ninth nationally in scoring, with an average of 40.8 points per game - a number that included 44 rushing touchdowns.

His special teams units also enjoyed success at Northern Illinois, as the Huskies ranked fifth nationally in kickoff coverage and fourth in punt coverage.

Prior to his stint at NIU, Uremovich spent seven years (2005-11) as the head coach at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. In 2011, he led that NAIA program to its most successful season in school history, as USF won a school-record 10 games and claimed its first win over an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team when it defeated Georgia State. The Saints advanced to the NAIA Playoffs for the first time in 24 years and captured their first playoff victory.

USF also posted seven-win seasons in 2008 and 2010 and turned in a 27-19 record over his last four seasons as head coach.

In 2003, Uremovich began a two-year stint as offensive coordinator at Waynesburg College in Pennsylvania. The Yellow Jacket offense flourished under Uremovich, establishing school records for rushing yards (2,315), total offense (4,579) and passing yards (2,592).

The New Lenox, Ill., native worked as a graduate assistant at NIU in 2001 and 2002 for teams that each won MAC West Division titles. Prior to his first stint at NIU, he got his start in college coaching at Benedictine University where he was the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator for the Eagles in 2000.

“My family and I are very excited to be a part of the NC State family,” said Uremovich. “Coach Doeren has a great vision for the program and I will work tirelessly to make that vision a reality. I can’t wait to get started.”

A graduate of Providence Catholic High School, Uremovich spent four years coaching in the high school ranks, beginning at McCutcheon High School in 1996 - while he was an undergraduate at Purdue. He served as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach from 1996-97 before returning to Providence in 1998. He worked with the Celtics’ wide receivers from 1998-99. Providence advanced to the IHSA state playoffs both years and played in the title game in 1998.

Uremovich earned his undergraduate degree in U.S. History education from Purdue in 2000 and his master’s from NIU in 2003.

Uremovich and his wife, Katie, have three children.

“We are happy that Mike, his wife Katie, his daughter Ella, and sons Michael and Drew are going to be a part of the Wolfpack family,” Doeren continued."
