Why is every snooze alarm 9 minutes? I searched the googles and couldn't find a definite answer.
The best I could find was that 9 is the most amount of time old gear clocks could count to without having to count double digits (9:45 to 9:54 is just 5 to 4 instead of 45 to 55, 1 gear vs 2 or more). Does this problem translate to digital clocks? 12/4/2012 12:03:19 AM

I always just assumed that it's because it'll take you a few seconds to hit snooze. So say your alarm is for 9 am, it takes you a bit to hit snooze, so the next alarm is 9:10. That way you have even numbers to work with. 12/4/2012 12:04:51 AM

My digital clock snooze is in multiples of 10 minutes. Some companies might keep the 9 minute snooze as some sort of clock tradition 12/4/2012 12:05:05 AM

I've never had a snooze other than 9. Everything from old wind up clocks to smart phones.
Anyone got a snooze they can set to their own time, not just intervals of 5? 12/4/2012 12:06:52 AM

Maybe with 9 minute intervals it's harder to confuse the time while half awake if you hit snooze multiple times. 12/4/2012 12:54:56 AM

According to google:
By setting the snooze time to 9 minutes, modern digital alarm clocks only needs to watch the last digit of the time. So, if you hit snooze at 6:45, the alarm goes off again when the last digit hits 4 - at 7:54. They couldn't make the snooze period 10 minutes, or the alarm would go off right away - or the clock would take more circuitry. ] 12/4/2012 1:54:10 AM

Man I love engineers
Someone told the guy to save money on this analog circuit, so he cut it to nine minutes and started a rumor about tradition. I hope that guy got a raise 12/4/2012 2:45:57 AM

I don't snooze. I use multiple alarms. My first goes off at 5:00, and the next goes off at 5:30 if I don't feel like getting up then. 12/4/2012 7:20:51 AM

I, too, removed the snooze from my iphone alarm. If I don't get up right away at 4:30am, it will throw my entire morning off kilter. 12/4/2012 7:34:11 AM

I've never used the snooze...I'm pretty much awake once the radio alarm goes off. I'd rather have more uninterrupted sleep than have to set my alarm earlier to compensate for my snoozes 12/4/2012 7:45:16 AM

9 minute snooze here too with the iphone! Kind of annoying, imo- I want my full 10 minutes
I wish there was a way to adjust in the settings (if there is someone please let me know)...at least with my old droid I could choose the intervals 12/4/2012 10:08:49 AM

My snooze on my android phone can be adjusted in 5 minute intervals (5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes...etc).
I rarely use it though because I set my alarm to pretty much the latest possible time I can wake up and still not be late. I'd rather have uninterrupted sleep than waking up and snoozing the alarm multiple times. If it's something super important to wake up for or I have to get up especially early, I'll set my clock radio alarm and my phone just in case. 12/4/2012 2:54:04 PM

I get up around 6:20 to get ready for work...but i set the alarm to that time every day. for one, it helps in case my alarm fails one day i need to get up. secondly, on days i don't have to work, it feels great to get to turn it off and just sleep through it. 12/4/2012 3:24:10 PM
