Horrifying. And it sounds like the GOP was specifically targeted. Sick.

Also, from what Rand Paul said if it wasn't for a member of leadership there (and thus capital police presence) it would have been a massacre.

I think this anecdote belongs in the "rise of left-wing radicalism" thread.

Which sadly enough, would actually have enough anecdotes to get to several pages.

Do you see my point though?

I'm sitting on 20-30 leftwing radicalism anecdotes easily, but I'm not stupid enough to make a thread and push a narrative. Meanwhile, you're stupid enough to try it with 2-3 anecdotes...

seems desperate, bruh

^kind of hard to do that when the city you work in bans guns. Maybe they'll be more vocal about how pointless the DC gun laws are going forward.

There was an armed security detail on the field at the time, but yeah I'm sure a bunch of untrained old white men firing off their handguns every which way would have made the situation much better.

^^ not to mention they were fucking playing baseball. Does Nighthawk roll up to the tennis courts strapped while playing?

How about we just blame the psychopath who was warped by some twisted interpretation of ideology and not the people playing baseball.

-democrats/liberals/sjws/marxists bad

Quote :
"WASHINGTON—In the wake of this morning’s mass shooting in Alexandria, VA, every single American from across the political spectrum was reportedly able to cite the tragedy as irrefutable proof that they had been right about everything all along. “I’ve always said gun control puts our citizens at risk and makes them sitting ducks for any criminal who doesn’t play by the rules, and today, sadly, all my fears were confirmed,” said conservative Paula Frazier of Willoughby, OH, one of the hundreds of millions of Americans who said it gave them no pleasure at all to have their long-held beliefs so thoroughly validated. Added liberal Marc Watson of Savannah, GA: “When any unhinged maniac can just waltz into a store or gun show and buy a weapon specifically designed for mass casualties, this is unfortunately what happens—exactly like I’ve said from the very beginning.” At press time, every American was dejected at the thought of how soon they would be proven absolutely right once again."

The only parallel I'll make here is that expecting people to carry while playing baseball is as ridiculous as expecting people to carry while they're dancing at a nightclub. You can't expect gun violence to be solved by having everyone carry guns everywhere. There are lots of people who don't have any desire to do that and lots of reasons why that's impractical/unsafe for lots of situations and people.

^^ But it is a proof of concept. There were a couple people with guns at the baseball field and the only person who died was the shooter.

"A good guy with a gun" is unarguably a deterrent.

There are other deterrents, but "let's make murder more illegal by regulating carry methods" doesn't strike me as one.

^^ But the "good guys with guns" were police. So what does that have to do with gun control? Seems more of an argument for better police security in public places.

^ you can't have that many cops, and if you did, that would probably yield its own set of problems.

^^ i don't know if it's a deterrent or not, but just about every mass shooting is in a gun-free zone.

^^ same, on grounds of federalism.

The left is making nonsensical arguments against it, due to either the usual lack of understanding of the issue(s), or else simple willingness to be disingenuous for partisan reasons.

^^I said something in the one in chit chat.

I'm a big supporter of the 2nd Amendment, but something's gotta give.

At this point, I say we limit magazines at the very least. Nobody needs a 30 rnd mag. Come at me gun supporters - I'm one of you. But if you are a responsible gun owner, you can't just sit by and continue to let these things happen.

FFS, five and six year olds were mowed down in 2012 and no one gave a single fuck. A bunch of dead teenagers surely won’t move the needle.

I understand you want to limit magazine size which is positive but who busts into a residential house with an AR 15 or similar semiautomatic rifle? And are you going to go straight for your AR 15 to defend yourself?
