those games are grandfathered in though. i'm worried about this because its being made right now.

also those are battlefield. gta uses guns in everyday life with total realism which allows you to potentially shoot up a school or something

[Edited on December 18, 2012 at 11:17 PM. Reason : not saying i would do that, but they shouldnt restrict these games if they are making them realistic]

so lemme get this straight....

some folks who don't partake in your hobby and don't know much about it are trying to blame it as a main cause of a much bigger problem? and they're suggesting meaningless legislation that will have no effect on a situation like the one in Connecticut?

sucks, don't it?

Video games are the new grunge/metal music. Some people don't understand it, so they blame it for the problems in society. That's a weak attempt at placing blame.

Truth be told, I'm sure the concept of violence in video games does desensitize us to it. But so does movies and TV, especially documentaries and the news. If news crews would have had access to those kids bodies, and they could have filmed it, you know damn good and well some station would have shown it. They are part of the problem too (showing us so much violence and death that it doesn't really shock us anymore), but won't admit it.

Vices are vices, and you need to learn how to handle your shit. If you are drunk, don't get in a fucking car. If you like violent movies and video games, don't fucking shoot anyone (other than yourself). Real simple rules.

I am a shitty wolfwebber because of Sonic Adventure 2. I think I had 249 / 250 emblems. It was the final zone with dr eggman (because they shat on the port). Every post I make, I think about that game.

True story.

Last time I checked, the crusaders against video games and more regulation of them was Joe Lieberman and Al Gore's ex Tipper.

WINNER

but seriously... all of the conservative talk I've heard (sean hannity, etc) has been mocking people who blame video games.

Ha.

Also playing video games is not a hobby and neither is buying guns. Possibly collecting old guns but I assume only Bond villains do this.

My uncles bow hunt. I don't have an issue with that.

^^^So if your uncle bow hunts that is cool and a hobby, but if you don't do it, then its obviously not a hobby.

Merriam Webster definition:

Quote :
"a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation"

Yep, nothing relaxing about playing video games or going out and doing some target practice. I take my oldest son BB gun target shooting quite often, and we both have a lot of fun doing that. But what would Webster know about that. Thank God your uncle shoots a bow though, so its cool.

What conservatives are blaming video games for the shooting? Name some. Even one or two will be fine.

I'm about as conservative as it gets and I can tell you I have heard nothing of the sort in any of the media outlets that I frequent.

Name who you are referring to.

such a dumb comparison

guns have only one use, hurting something, or in the case of handguns, hurting someone. plenty of fair arguments against gun control but comparing it to video games is dumb. kinda like the picture going around about how fertilizer is still legal after Ok City. Fertilizer has a normal, legal use that doesnt involve hurting anyone (well, environmentalist might argue) and is what 99.999% of the population use it for.

i don't think video games are to blame either. just saying that the video game enthusiast's feelings are probably very similar to the shooting sports enthusiast.

HAHA
I know some VERY avid gun owners and not one of them has used their handguns to "hurt someone"

and yes, people hunt. would you rather an even larger amount of deer be killed by automobiles every year?

There's also the sport side which you completely ignored. Yes, people shoot for enjoying/entertainment. Marksmanship is a sport and in this case, firearms are no different from a bowling ball in bowling or a bow in archery. The Olympics recognizes firearm marksmanship is a valid sport.

Saying guns have only one use is like saying cars only have one use. Automobiles can be competitively/recreationally raced; they are used for more than just transportation.

I can see how video games can influence someone, but that's just as bad as saying the Food Network and Paula Deen are responsible for obesity and diabetics. People demand free will, however at the first sign of fault they find a scapegoat to explain their weakness and lack of self control.

This update is still making me rage.

Quote :
"Sad day for Americans and especially Connecticut, Here we go again with everybody blaming Guns for this tragedy. I know i'll catch shit over this but here is my two cents, Its the stupid VIDEO GAMES! Rather than a responsible Adult teaching their kids about proper Gun safety and use these kids are spending all their free time playing these Shootem up video games where they think they're invincible and can freely shoot at everything and anybody. There are Games where you can kill cops! whats that teaching a kid? Zombie killing games and T.V. and the list goes on and on. I'm telling you, Video games are a big problem in the wrong mindset. Think about it."

This guy. This fucking guy. If only one good thing comes out of this maybe there will be less first person shooters and some more original games (yea right).
