Question about etiquette: if you have thanked someone in person for gifts, should you still send a thank you card afterward?

We can do both.

So far, at Christmas #1, I received a Stuhrling watch, pea coat, a nice UGG Hooded sweatshirt, a dress shirt, cash and assorted other goodies.

It is always acceptable to send a thank you note for a present. That said, thank you notes aren't as ... necessary as they were for the older generation. Among friends and family, I think that it is acceptable to omit a thank you note as long as you've been able to thank the giver personally. That may be a phone call, an Email, or in person. I don't think that anyone would think twice if you didn't send a thank you note as long as the giver has been thanked. If it is someone that you're trying to impress, I don't think that it would be inappropriate to send a thank you note.

The only times I've really sent a thank you note for Christmas presents has been when gifts were sent to me at the house or through someone else, so I didn't get to see them to thank them personally and really didn't want to go to the trouble of a phone call because I'd have to talk to the person for an hour.

I think that's the model anyway. It's definitely a brother and it's one of the project runway ones. it has a bajillion buttons. I can't wait to figure out how to use it.

If somebody sends me a thank you card they're an idiot. It's immediately going in the trash, I wanted you to have something, I don't need your thanks to make me feel good. You wasted your time and money.

So I have received $1000 toward a trip to the Dominican Republic, a new ps3 since mine broke a few months ago.. And i will see if anything else is coming tomorrow

christmas eve is when my brother and I trade "Aunt Doris" gifts in memory of our great aunt who always gave us gifts that were a little old/small/etc. so we buy each other gifts that fit that kind of theme

this year my brother game me a set of butane candlesticks. yup, filled up like a lighter and the top twists to adjust the flame size. pretty boss

this is what I gave him:

http://www.pier1.com/Squawkin%27-Chick-Egg/2337476,default,pd.html

when you squeeze it, an "egg" pops out its ass...it's translucent and you can see the yolk and milky white fluid inside. it's grosser than it sounds

You guys get a lot of shit for Xmas. I usually get like 5 or 6 things total. A couple from my parents a couple from my brother and sister-in-law, and maybe something from the grandparents. Who the fuck is buying you people all of these things?

And some lush bath bombs and a new tervis

My husband helped with the car, and my parents are divorced so I have two families but most of the stuff came from my husband's parents. His mom loves to buy for me!

My brother and I usually get one big gift each from our parents (past couple years we've both gotten the same gifts). This year was IPads and last year it was tailgating gear (tents, stove etc).

Last night we opened gifts with my family. This morning we opened gifts with my husband's family

We just had the first grandchild so baby Henry got more gifts than anybody.
