I remember a professor asking this in a class.

You people are fucking retarded if you say anything other than "No one."

I'm the dickhead that laughed out loud when you said your gf or bf, btw.

elise and my husband.

I think that you can trust someone and expect them to fuck it up. I think that trusting someone is feeling confident that they won't *intentionally* fuck up. elise might let a secret slip out or my husband might do something that really hurts my feelings, but i don't think that they'd set out to do anything hurtful or backstabby.

There are two people I trust unconditionally. That's my parents. And that's because they've never given me a reason not to. And countless reasons to trust them.

Other than that, no one.

I trust my parents, but still the only person I really trust is myself

I definitely don't trust myself. I trust my husband in the same sense as bottombaby says, and I trust her that way, too. Both of them will always be honest with me, my husband will sugarcoat more than bottombaby will. My maternal grandma is the only family member I trust, I am very wary of the rest of those people.

With what? Most things my best friend, although I don't doubt he's lied to me about details that could get him in trouble.. I trust my gf, until she has a few drinks, then all bets are off. My brother is definitely a liar, my sister is probably pretty trustworthy, my other brother is probably ok.. I dunno, I give people the benefit in most cases, as long as I have a way to check back up on them if they don't do something they said they would

Parents are the only people I could trust to act completely selflessly in my interest. That's not an absolute kind of trust, but you can't absolutely trust even your own self. The fact of life is that you don't get another person on the same level as a parent. They'll always have some other factor in their decision that can outweigh you.

Quite the contrary. My childhood was pretty painful. My parents tried their best to do what they could and what they felt was best. We were not financially well off, and there were many things that other kids had that we didn't. And we didn't really fit in with many groups of kids.

My parents tried with what they had, and we always had food, clothes, and a warm place to sleep. And they often made sacrifices so that we did. They still make sacrifices for us, even though we're adults and have been away from home for a long time. I owe them a lot.

Trust isn't a binary thing, it comes in degrees. But I don't feel like trust tested situations really come up that often do they?

hah, of course i have

but i'm not some pathetic sad sack who has taken one or two negative and hurtful events, let them define my life, and let it dictate the tone of every relationship i'll ever have in the future

though in your defense, the fact that you think it's naive and retarded to trust ANYONE, EVER, means you must have really been fucked over more than your average person and you have my sympathy...you really are in a sad state

on a different note, please learn when it's correct to use quotation marks...i swear, you kids must have failed miserably in your high school english classes

You're entirely missing the point, apparently.

It's not like I go around questioning everyone's word. I also, however, don't make it a habit to put myself in a position to rely on others when it comes to incredibly important decisions. If I do, and I'm let down, I don't get particularly upset. It's not the emotional shitfest you think.

I trust my mom, brother, and boyfriend. I don't trust that they won't make mistakes, but that they'll be honest in the mistakes that they do make. Also, they look out for what is in my best interest.

Ok, I will admit that I trust my father to never lie to me.

How's that?
