Because the push-ups are the easy part, I'd save those for when I was tired. Doing 30 push-ups is trivial for anyone who can do 30 pull-ups. But doing 30 pull-ups after doing 30 push-ups just makes the hard part harder.

Yeah no way you would do push-ups first. 1 minute is fucking beast. You have to be going insanely fast on the pull-ups and push-ups. Cannot imagine being able to really do this with good form and full reps in 60 secs. Even 2 minutes would be impressive IMO.

Yeah, re-reading my post, I wasn't very clear. I didn't necessarily mean them in the order I stated them. No way I could do 30 pull-ups in any reasonable time if I jumped in right after push-ups.

I also agree it would be really tough to have any reasonable form in 1 minute to complete it all.

Is there a more accurate way of coming up with your BMR than just plugging in height, weight, and age into a formula? Or is there a formula that is most accurate? I've reached a plateau and I think that my BMR is just lower than what I've been spoon fed.

^ quit measuring by that. Just use the scale. If the scale is going down then you're heading in the right direction. If the weights are going up, you're heading in the right direction.

I'd still like to know my base metabolic rate in order to calculate calories in and calories out. Like I said. Plateau. Wondering if my deficit needs to be greater because my BMR is actually lower. Just curious.

you should check your temperature as soon as you wake up in the morning. If it's low, then you're metabolism has slowed down and you're not going to burn anywhere close to what any chart says. prolonged dieting and suppressed thyroid function will cause this.

^^ i'm having the same issue. The scale has been mostly staying the same. I've dropped .07 lbs in the last 4 weeks and no noticeable body comp changes (other then my lats are more noticeable now). The good news is I have been getting stronger, but even that seems to be plateauing. I've been on a 3500 cal per week deficit since April.

Checking basal body temperature is genius! Thank you for the tip. I'll do that tomorrow morning.

Starting today I've decided to move from a 500/day deficit to a 750/day deficit to see if that moves things along. I probably need to shock the system and switch things up. I've been focusing on strength training for the last two months which coincides with my plateau. Time to get back to running.

Same here on the strength training bit. My weightloss stagnated as soon as I finished the Insanity program which was over 2 months ago. I'm going to stay with the same cal deficit but restart the insanity program beginning of October. My net cal/day should drop because I'll burn 200-300 more calories in a session of Insanity then I do in an hour of lifting. I'm cycling weight training and HIIT every 9-10 weeks.

Have a quick question. If you are starting a weight program and are in about week 3 of 12 weeks and end up missing an entire week due to whatever...do you start the program over? Do you just redo week 3 and keep pushing? Or continue on like you didn't miss a day?

Or the Triangle YMCA off Hillsborough - 3 free passes for out-of-area guests (accompanied) or $10 a day (unaccompanied).


I feel your pain - A standard pull-up bar is an endangered species in the gym world.

i've been using the smith machine. i lock it on the top notch, bend my legs so my feet don't touch the ground and get to it. it helps that i am short though.

I don't live in Raleigh, and it's not that big of a deal. If there was a convenient gym I was going to see if I could pop in to get a photo like this for shits and giggles.

^A lot of local parks have fitness trails and usually include a set of pull-up bars. I know Shelley lake in Raleigh and Bond Park in Cary have some.

That's good to know, but I won't have a lot of time to spend on driving somewhere for one kitschy photo, and I don't really see myself walking down a wooded trail in my wedding dress.

Or have a few groomsmen hold a bar up over their heads. Then you could do pull-ups at the altar or after taking shots during the reception

Just had a wellness screening that was provided through work. Everything was well within normal/optimal/desriable ranges except for my LDL & HDL levels (total cholesterol was ok). Both really aren't within their respective high levels, but they're both a little outside the normal range. I really don't know much about either one of those or what you can do to reduce them. I don't really eat a lot of red meat, but probably do eat more processed stuff than I should (especially on the weekends). I supposed family history can play a part (father had a heart attack), but I'd like to try and work on those a little bit.
