I have a few questions for you. They're mostly serious. Please answer them.

1- What type of degree did you get?

2- Are you doing what you imagined yourself doing while you were in college?

3- Are you employed right now, doing what?

4- Why would an employer want to hire you?

5- How in debt are you with school loans?

6- If you took out loans to pay for school, do you have any idea how long it's going to take you to pay them back?

7- Not counting school loans, how in debt are you?

8- If you got laid off right now, are you prepared for it?

9- What does your retirement planning look like right now?

I'll insert my editorial comments later

Aw, this is cute! I got my own thread! From somebody I don't even know! Sure, I'll answer.

I originally got a degree in mass communications. I wish I would have had the focus and self discipline for engineering. But I'd rather spend my time coloring and drawing. I later had to go back and get a second degree in something more specialized. Which lead me to the career I have now.

When I was in college, I thought I'd be able to make money by making jello shots and selling them at parties at ECU in Tar River Estates. That wasn't lucrative in the long-term, however. I also thought I could be an art therapist in Arizona for a while, also. Again- not a very realistic career goal. More of a retirement plan.

I am employed now. I was just hired in 2012. It's my first job that I've really ever loved AND been paid enough to feel like an adult. I get up every morning excited to go to work. I love that.

An employer would want to hire me because I have an excellent work ethic, I'm a creative problem solver, and I'm an excellent team player. No bullshit.

No student loans. I'm pretty lucky in that sense.

If I took out student loans, I'd probably owe over $75K because I was unemployed for a year and wouldn't have been able to pay off any loans then. The interest would have slaughtered me.

I'm not in any debt right now. I don't have a credit card. I try not to live beyond my means. That's clutch. Cash only.

If I get laid off right now, no, I'm not prepared for it. And it would totally suck. I've been laid off before. It's hard to plan for- and it also makes me skiddish to have children. I think my demographic has been scarred by the inconsistent job market. I don't know too many people my age that plan their pregnancies. Anyway, I digress.

As far as retirement planning goes, I have a 401k and a savings account that I drop cash in to out of every paycheck. I can't touch it until I'm 60. It's a shoe box. I hope my dog doesn't eat it.

OH HAVE YOU SEEN MY DOG LATELY? Don't worry. I'll post pics.

you can draw from a 401k early, you just take a tax penalty.

Good to know if you find out you're going to die at 55.

^There's a lot of truth to this.

There's also a lot of sexist-perpetuation to this.

I didn't peeve anyone. I just started a thread a few days ago asking people of they were painting themselves a corner with their college education or not.
