Yeah I would be curious if beyond the obvious cost reduction if they ran afoul Dundon. I think there was a frosty period after they were critical of him though that seemed to have smoothed over but I also think part of the split on Adam and Joe was Adam wanting to talk way more hockey and golf and Joe sticking to NFL, local schools, and national stories. Joe and Joe still discussed plenty of hockey but it wasn’t half the show or as much of the offseason as it was towards the end of the Adam and Joe days and maybe that wasn’t how the local team with the money to spend wanted it.

Yeah I mean simplest answer is the most likely one that it's just a short sighted money play. Just with the seemingly sudden timing with no notice or anything its a bit curious especially when they have been high or top of the ratings and they are going with a local replacement and not another syndicated show they can just pipe in.

With the Dundon stuff I was just thinking it was interesting that they just finalized the renewed broadcast partnership with the Canes beginning of the month. Wasn't trying to say he owned the station or anything.

tbh the only reason i listened to that show was because i knew the guys running it... i know that makes me an outlier, but it is what it is

pretty much the only show i listened to on 99.9fm (occasionally Gold if I had happened to leave the radio on that channel)

chances of me listening to the new show are just about 0

if there's a silver lining, it's that i won't have to hear those damn diamonds direct spots and "cleverly-worded" penis pill advertisements anymore

From what I understand, Joe and Joe didn’t have exorbitant salaries. I think it’s similar to Dundon not paying Chuck Kaiton a few years back and the executives no longer seeing the value proposition in radio. However, these guys did a good job of being ‘content creators,’ which is pretty much what you have to be these days to be any sort of viable media personality.

I enjoyed their content on WRALSF and Twitter, but I rarely listened to the show outside of a big interview/Final Four/Canes playoff run. They obviously knew the decades-long dynamic between the 3 big schools, had a good understanding of Triangle-area storylines going back to the 90s and how all the fans give each other shit and interact among each other. Their dismissal sucks for the market and isn’t going to be replicated by someone who comes in from Ohio or something.

Another thing about that show is it started in March 2020 which was the worst time to start anything. Don’t know if that was a factor in the decision but feels like it could have been.

if they didn't have exorbitant salaries than it could also be they didn't get ad buys or were requested to do personal ad reads (not produced commercials), not sure thats the case or maybe management wants more money in their pocket and to get cheaper on air talent.
