Figured I'd make a thread for this year...

Anyone ever fish for Tautog? I'm thinking about trying it out this weekend on some of the jetties near Fort Macon or Radio Island. If anyone has any tips, that would be cool.

What type of rigs and bait?

I'm actually going to shy away from that for now....the more I look into it the more costly it is to fish for them...apparently you end up losing a lot of gear...can't afford to do that...

Got a new rod for xmas, gonna try some pier fishing soon. (south FL).

I usually go out on charter fishing boats, but wanted to just get a rod of my own to go whenever I wanted.

My boyfriend is bringing his commercial boat down to Morehead in a couple of weeks...I'm super pumped...I'll be having a lot of weekend fishing trips.

Also, when I was in VA Beach he put out the greenstick. That shit is fucking awesome. Wish I could have seen a fish bite it, but it's insane!

I've fished from Clayton to Brogden on the Neuse. Mostly night fishing for cat. And that was mostly drinking and less fishing.

Headed down to the beach this weekend and gonna bring my gear.

Will it be a complete waste of time to try and surf/pier fish. (not that fishing instead of working is EVER a waste of time) Would I be better off in the ICW? I know water temps are hovering around 50 degrees so I expect a slow if any bite, but I was seeing what to expect if anything.

It's going to be a very slow bite if anything this weekend from the surf...surf fishing isn't going to pick up until at least the end of March...
but hey...it's never a waste of time to get your lines wet.

Went on a 24 hour trip...left yesterday afternoon, got back tonight around 8.

Tried for swordfish last night but it was slow. So today we tried for Wahoo...ended up getting a dozen dolphin and a mako. Pulled another mako and wahoo off.

anybody got a recommendation for a good, lightweight, durable pair of waders?

I don't know much about waders, but I do know that a lot of people that I know who use them love the frogg toggs.

I know Calcutta makes a pair of light weight waders, although I can't vouch for the quality.

I went surf fishing yesterday and caught a mess of puffers. When I reported to my dad what I had caught and how I let them all go he was not happy. Apparently they are good eats...who knew?
So I'm going back out today to catch what I let go yesterday.

Caught three wahoo last weekend out of Carolina Beach. It's been blowing like hell but the stream fishing is good. Flounder are starting to move inshore finally so I think I will start gigging soon!

Just wanted to post this picture of me with the fish and my beautiful surf rod....I wish it was longer...and I need a better reel.

also, the shirt I'm wearing is a few sizes too big, that's why I look very fat (and the fact that I am a fatass)

that reel looks like a painted stradic. On the other note, caught 2 red drums and a speck in my back yard today. Been on a dry spell for the last couple weeks, so this is good.
