I had my shed broke into a while back and some tools stolen. I ended up finding my air compressor in a pawn shop and the people responsible for stealing my tools are caught and charged now. It feels good to see some justice for once!

some of my neighbors got their cars broken into the other day, though there was no broken glass or anything so i suspect they mightve just left their doors unlocked

kicked in my door. stole 6 firearms, my wife's jewelry box, and some other jewelry items on dressers and stuff. the sheriff's dept found 4 of the guns in a pawn shop a couple counties over. none of the other stuff showed up. they charged the guy and i got restitution for my losses that weren't covered by insurance.

Neighbor's kids broke in through my bedroom window, stole all my panties, all the blinds, a double bottle of cooking wine and crystal light packets

I couldn't sleep alone for a year... Ugh

I am in the market for an alarm system, and video surveillance system, and a shot gun, and maybe a revolver.

My cars got broken in to about 6-7 months ago, windows broken out, some electronics stolen, the perps were chased away from a neighboring home and dropped my stuff in a ditch where the cops found it.

Since then on more than one occasion the motion lights have gone off at odd hours of the morning, the dog has gone the fuck off, etc. The dog does not go off unless there is noise, as far as I know the perps were never caught and are still prowling around.

I have a basement with 4 windows and 2 doors that all backs up to woods that you cant see from the street. Thieves love basements, easy to kick in and no one can see.

I hope to have an alarm system in place before spring that protects the whole basement, better security lighting, and some weapons. I have no wish to ever shoot anyone in my life, but if they break in and its me or them I don't really plan on being the victim.

Basically, the next-door neighbors teen boys always creeped me out a bit. No particular reason. I just got weird vibes.

The day my house was robbed, the house on the OTHER side of the next-door neighbors was vandalized.

Based on the items stolen and the other property vandalized, we knew that it was likely the work of creepy, bored teenagers.

THEN, the parents came forward a couple of days later and let us know that they had found our blinds and underwear in their home. And did we want them back?

Definitely had to replace all of my underwear. Ugh.

We pressed charges. But they had a great attorney, so the kids basically got off with a slap on the wrist.

to answer the thread topic, a guy tried to kick in my back door one day mid-morning (broad daylight). I came home from lunch and eventually saw the back door had been damaged, but he didn't get all the way in. I think our dog scared him off.

and I'm in a very visible house backing up to a golf course and my back door is in plain view of a huge area. I'm frankly perplexed why the guy would have tried my house vs the house next door where the back door is hidden by giant shrubbery.

Yes. In spring of 2008, four teenage kids climbed on top of the storage shed roof on our deck (townhouse) and popped open the lock of our 2nd floor window with a screwdriver. One of the boys had been casing out house for a week, and the night before rang our doorbell looking for someone and apologized for having the wrong house. That night he learned we had a dog, so they armed themselves with bacon and meat the day of the breakin to lure her in to a closet.

Luckily our neighbor's cat is kind of weird, and was freaking out by their back door when the boys were on our deck. The neighbor looked out his door to see what was going on and saw them climbing in through the window. He called the police, which arrived in minutes. The lookout in the street alerted the boys inside, and two escaped. The other two were apprehended trying to leave our home. They ratted out the other two.

Nothing was taken, but they had flipped all the cushions on our furniture and rummaged through all of our drawers. It was enough to make me feel uncomfortable and violated. They were looking for guns.

Turns out, one of the kids was a friend of a friend of our neighbor who called the cops. He was telling his buddies how our neighbor had given his mom a handgun for protection and that she had more. They had meant to break in to her house, but got the incorrect one when the friend of our neighbor had told them which house it was.

If anyone is in the home security shopping process, I have FrontPoint Security and have been very happy. If you'd like to know more, just shoot me a PM. If you go with FrontPoint and you use me as a reference, I think we both get a month free (no matter which monitoring plan).

someone tried to break into a place i lived in with 2 roommates in college. they didn't take anything but we woke up to hearing him rummaging through our storage closet on the porch trying to find a spare key (which was odd considering we normally kept the storage closet locked but we were in it the day before and had forgotten to lock it back up).

i think someone attempted to break into my car the other day. i noticed the rubber that goes around my driver window has been pulled out in two spots.

I lived on Method Rd for two years back in college. We had our house broken into once. They broke my bathroom window and came in that way. Nothing I had was stolen, but my roommate was borrowing my boyfriend's bass guitar and that was stolen. The cash that one roommate had left for rent money was also stolen. The worst part was that the guys who came in even flipped all of my roommate's snake aquariums out, letting the snakes loose in the house. Fortunately, one of my roommates came home while the break in was in progress and the guys ran out of the back door before they could mess up or grab anything else.

When I was a junior I lived in off campus housing off of S. East Street in Raleigh, the houses are no longer there but my neighbor at the time was a transgendered crack dealer. He introduced himself as "Sam" and told us about his recent boob job but that he "still had a willie".... and he apologized if at any time in the future if any of his "customers" might mistake our house for his and knock on our door.

For some reason we weren't really weirded out by that. Peace security (which amounted to a few old man in their 60s with a minivan) would drive by the house every hour or so and we also had a security system that my roommate had hooked up.

One day, near the end of the school year, while I was alone in the house, someone banged on the front door, kicked it in then stormed the place while I locked my bedroom door and hid in the closet. They took the spaghetti I had just made, pot and all and then left. I was still hiding in my closet when Peace Security came in because the alarm was still blaring. Turns out the alarm system was never connected to the alarm company and Katy was keeping the money we paid her each month for it.

Sam came by a couple days later with our pot, all nice and clean, and apologized for his friend.

Filed police report when it was stolen. I'm guessing the kid that pawned it was a friend of a friend of some cop and they didn't want him getting a felony on his record.

Someone broke into my unlocked car once on campus and stole my phone charger. It looked like an ipod charger so they were probably after that.

I was gonna call the campus police but my phone was dead.

4 days after Christmas in 2010. 4 places on my street had been robbed they tried to break into my place. Our parking spots are numbered by our addresses and they were breaking into places with no cars home. (mine was in the shop) They were met by an angry as hell Rhodesian Ridge back and the sight of a man in his boxers pointing a 12 gauge at their face. Guy had what I think was a crowbar that he used to get the door open. I said a few choice things to him while trying to hold my dog back. Dog ran around the back side of the couch and jumped over it at the guy. I reached to try and stop my dog as the guy swung the crowbar. In the struggle of everything going on he was now inside my house threatening me and my dog. I pulled the trigger one handed while trying to stop my dog. Skinned his head and took about 8 or so dreads of the top. He ran into the waiting car.

Spend the next 3-4 hours talking to about 10 cops and for the first 30mins in the back of a cop car. I was released without being charged or taken downtown. Finding his hair and some blood on the inside of the door frame made it clear enough he was inside. They found the guy at the hospital.

Come to find out he lived in the neighborhood behind me and still had almost all the stuff he had stolen from my neighbors.

From what a friend in the force said is that he was put away for a very long time because of prior convictions as well.

TLDR - Guy broke in and I met him at the door holding my shot gun. I was holding my dog back he ran around furniture and jumped over the couch at the guy. He stepped in and while trying to grab my dog I shot him. I skinned his head and took off a lot of his hair.

First cop to arrive kinda did. He was young and literally half my size. He's the one that put me in the back of his car. They grilled me at first and kept asking me the same questions. But once they saw inside and pieced together that I was telling the truth they were cool

Funniest thing was i'd been out drinking with all my old highschool buddies that night went to bed hammered. The adrenaline kicked in when I heard my dog start to bark and hadn't worn off even after the cops were there so I guess I didn't seem like i'd been drinking until randomly one of them by chance smelled me or my breathe and said "Jesus, did you drink a handle of whiskey to yourself?" ... "No officer I didn't..... It was rum"

I have been looking at FrontPoint online, what makes them stand out above the others?

It appears to me the equipment is non-proprietary, meaning it could be hooked to other companies later on and easily upgraded. Is that the case?

Had a break-in attempt when I lived on Thea Ln. Came home to find the door frame broken and a big shoe print under the knob where someone tried to kick in the door. Fortunately I had a Rottweiler at the time, so I am sure as soon as his foot hit the door my dog started barking his head off.

Had my jeep broken into several times in High School. I pretty much just gave up on trying to have a system in it, because the speakers just kept getting stolen. One time it was broken into I had about 200 CDs stolen. I went to a pawn shop and found them, still in the travel case.

Had my truck broken into once when I lived in Cary. It was actually at a body shop getting repairs done at the time. (I hit a deer and did $5k worth of damage). They stole my speakers, amp, and ripped my dashboard apart trying to get my radio. Upside was that the body shop paid for my replacement speakers/amp, so I got a significant upgrade out of the deal.

Then one time a kid stole a bike off of our patio...in the middle of the day....with the blinds open and us sitting in the living room. We followed and got it back and he was arrested. good days

I do have a pretty funny semi-related story.

When I lived at Lake Park back in '97/'98 I had a roommate that was ex-Amish, so he left the fucking door unlocked constantly. It really pissed me off, but he was as dumb as a box of rocks. Well at like 2AM one morning he comes in my room and wakes me up. Says that there is someone in the kitchen. I walk out and there is a dude in my kitchen wearing nothing but boxer shorts doing the dishes. He was clearly fucked up on something, not sure what, but it was definitely more than alcohol.

I yell at the dude to get out, and he replies that he lives there. I reply that he doesn't, but he insists that he does. He then gets down on all fours and starts cleaning the floor, where he had tracked in mud. I let him finish cleaning, then finally convince him to step outside and look at the number on the apartment, to prove that he is in the wrong place. As soon as he steps outside I slam the door and lock it.

I watch through the peep hole and see that all of his clothes are out there, completely covered in mud. He got dressed and left. A couple days later I saw him in the parking lot and asked him about it. He didn't remember shit.

Upside: I got my dishes done and my floor cleaned.
