Holy shit, 4 more days of this. Thank god for sports on TV or I'd have to talk to these people about all the things we don't have in common.

I love them, but good lord, we have very little in common outside of sense of humor.

Need to find a bar to go to tomorrow or something.

Nah, I've got football (and 3/4 of a bottle of Johnnie Walker) to hold off conversation today until at least 8PM. Tomorrow when there's nothing going on is when it will be a lot of board games and "so, why aren't you married yet?"

It's not a true family gathering until at least one person is in tears

I told all my family I was unable to have a child.

They don't know I'm unable because I think having kids sucks. Just look sad and about to cry when you tell them and say you don't want to talk about it.

The nice thing is that there's much more pressure on my married younger brother. My parents don't really say much, they're only in their 50s, but my grandmother wants more great grandchildren. A couple of my cousins have had kids so even that isn't too bad.

Mostly it's the, "when are you going to settle down and get married?" that I find annoying.

My mom had to stop after having 2 kids and wanted a dozen of them, so she thought trying to pressure me into it was ok. Now she knows better.

I can't believe all of you fuckers have to deal with pressure from family over getting married and having kids.

I never had to deal with that. Ever. Seems foreign and ridiculous to me. Your overall happiness and contentment is much more important. Guess I was lucky.

On the flip side, my folks never said a thing about girlfriends or my ex-wife. They let me learn a few lessons the hard way. In retrospect, I kinda wish they had voiced their opinions more.

My parents don't really give a shit. It's really more my extended family, aunts and uncles.

I never had to deal with much flack from the family about being single--the benefits of being male and an only child (and the second-oldest cousin on one side, and by far the youngest on the other). Once I had been in a steady relationship for about year the "so when are you two getting married" started to crop up from extended family, but my parents weren't very pushy. Once we are married (proposed after 4+ years, wedding is in May) I imagine we'll start to hear baby questions frequently but, again, the fact that several cousins now have kids takes a little of the heat off.

Mom and I were conversing on the whole thing a couple of years ago. I told here that I hoped she didn't mind or take it personally, but I was not going to be giving her any grandkids. She said that didn't bother her at all, and do what makes me happy.

She's got two grandchildren courtesy of my sisters anyway.
