Trying to figure out a better way to dispose of my old appliances

I could let the appliance dude have them and dispose of them when they bring me the new stuff but everything is in good working order just older and out dated. I'm already giving him enough money plus he wants to charge me $3.00 per appliance.

I could scrap them or donate them and there are pros and cons to each.

Pros for scrapping would be a little extra money. maybe a little south of $100.
Cons: labor / time

Pros for donating: lots ... helping people out, not lifting a finger and a small tax write off.
Cons ... cant really think of any.

Alternate idea: sell on Craigslist. Even if it is uber old just as long as it works and you are honest in your listing you can get at least $20 on it.

oddly enough, for stuff like that, I find it easier to unload stuff like old appliances or electronics if you charge a small amount for it rather than give it away.

Nothing I have ever posted on CL: Free board has ever lasted more than an hour.

Put it on the curb.
Put an ad on CL.
Gone in 30 minutes.

yeah, but i would rather donate to helping hand mission if I go that route
I have worked with them before and I know the items will go to someone who really needs it.
