Didn't know they played on the Grammys. I made it because they were on SNL last night.

This band has been around for a while, and it reminded me of the fact that they're a mediocre band with decent songs, fronted by a woman who could legitimately become one of the all-time great American vocalists.

I'm not saying she needs to make shiny pop records, but I do wonder what would happen if she was backed by a group that could provide an appropriate frame for her vocal power, instead of being dwarfed by it. The live arrangement of "Hold On" that you see on television is completely overtaken by that vocal. Imagine it with a band that can keep up.

What I'm probably saying is that I want Brittany Howard to make a solo record for Daptone.

Not to sound all vinylbandit-ish but I have been a fan for awhile now. I first heard them on NPR awhile back but I'm glad to see they're getting widespread recognition on SNL and the Grammys. Definitely don't wanna be in the car with me when I'm singing along to that album

[Edited on February 17, 2013 at 1:02 PM. Reason : Or any album]

i remember seeing the Alabama Shakes open up for the Drive By Truckers a few years ago and thinking to myself that this band would breakout and become huge in the near the future. It's finally starting to happen. Brittany Howard almost brought the roof down at that show. She's an amazing vocal talent.

It was just her during the Grammys, singing with a bunch of people for a Levon Helm tribute.

Didn't know they were on SNL. I'll have to check it out.

I'd never seen her/Alabama Shakes before SNL this weekend, and DAMN! Both the fiance and I were hugely impressed.

The unfortunate thing is that the bass player is the one she started the band with, so he's the least likely to get punted.

Brittany Howard made a record for Third Man with Ruby Amanfu, the girl who sings in Jack White's all-female band.

Thus begins the world's realization that her band is not great, but she's a genius.

choosing fame isn't the same as fulfilling ones potential

[Edited on March 4, 2013 at 7:25 PM. Reason : she is infinitely more talented than the dudes in her band]

i don't think playing with talented people is chasing fame. it's a way to improve your craft, branch out, get inspired, etc
