So I am/was close to pulling the trigger on a new car. ( some of you may remember I had the R32 thread vs wrx vs new gti )
The new car in question was a 2008 subaru forester 2.5xt (turbo) with 95K for about 14.5 and I ran into a snag. The previous owner sent me the carfax because he had a "hook-up" with them and I noticed an imperfection in the report, almost like a bad photoshop when he e-mailed me a scanned copy.
Turns out I looked up the auto shop that performed the maintenance and got them to fax me the report. Total damage to the vehicle was about $8300 which is way more than 25% the worth of the vehicle at the time and was never disclosed to him as the previous buyer. (damage disclosure agreement)
I'm don't think I'm going to guy the car now due to some frame repair that was associated with the repairs and the fact that the vehicle is AWD. I've heard bad things about frame repair and the mechanics of AWD vehicles due to uneven tire wear blah blah.
Am I being over careful about buying a used car? or did all my research pay off to avoid buying a potential money pit?

Not only would I not buy it, I'd report him to law enforcement. I doubt they do anything, but it's worth a shot.
I'd also post an "ad" on Craigslist calling attention to his fraud, and I would notify any other website he has is advertised on. 2/19/2013 3:31:00 PM |

Sounds like a sketchy deal, good thing you caught the guy trying to pull the wool over. I'd just move on to another vehicle, have your own mechanic look it over and pull your own carfax unless its brand new. Good luck finding the right ride. 2/19/2013 11:13:36 PM |

Not bad but wouldn't hurt to have the left ones replaced
I'm not gonna lie it's a 170k mile car. It's pretty damned quick with the 20g on it and 15 psi tune and it's been pretty well taken care of but as my toy and huge waste of money.... it's been replaced by a 61 galaxie. 2/20/2013 11:03:49 AM |

swweeeeet legacy. Yeah the whole point in me getting a new-ish car was to be lower in mileage, increased reliability but nice car nonetheless, have pics?
I've really always liked subaru's, I mean, other than plastic interior you have a TURBO and AWD...what's not to love? I kinda like how fugly they are even...well not the 06-07 wrx's (flying vag, but whatever. 2/20/2013 3:50:38 PM |
