You know what you really need to do before taking a girl on a first date is...

Put in some phone time. And I'm not talking about texting.

Find out what she likes. Find out what she's into.

It really helps with conversation once you're actually out with her. You don't want your first date to be like an interview. If you do this, it shouldn't be hard to figure out where to take her on a first date.

My recommendation is to eat before the date and then eat nothing or just an appetizer at the most on the date. It will make her feel like a fat ass and she won't order much either, keeps the bill in check.

Besides if you let her eat a lot she will be less drunk which directly hurts your chances of getting laid.

But then again I've only been on one "date" ever and I didn't get laid so I don't plan on doing it ever again.

nothing wrong with a "regular" restaurant and there are plenty of places you could go that have good food and a nice atmosphere...but i think there's more pressure when doing an actual dinner

piggybacking on the dessert and wine, most Melting Pots have bar specials Monday-Thursday where you can get $10 cheese and chocolate fondue at the bar. Perfect amount to share while you split a bottle of wine. and sitting at the bar makes it a little more casual.

When I lived in Raleigh I always took first dates to Bella Monica. Nice little intimate Italian restaurant. I don't know if it's still open. The have awesome baked ziti and bread n oil.
