I heard this song on NPR's Tiny Desk performance by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The song made the hair stand up on my arms and after seeing the video, I was in tears. Macklemore sings about more than wearing your Grandpa's clothes. I <3 his message.

I'm a fan. He's got some great songs and seems to be a really cool guy in real life. Apparently he was bad off on drugs and cough syrup and hit rock bottom for a while. Interesting dude that brings something a little different to the rap game.

I think it's funny this thread was seemingly created for one reason, and it has taken a different turn entirely.

BTW, I really like Macklemore. Very unique in today's music world, as much for his story and his subjects as for his style and music. At the very least you can say more guys like him wouldn't be a bad thing.

As was mentioned and linked to above, his song SAME LOVE is a piece of art. Was floored that that was same guy who sang Thrift Shop. Very personal and moving song that has a geniuneness that is rare to find in mainstream these days.

yeah, Thrift Shop has some pop hooks, but that's just part of its brilliance. he's got multiple albums with a wide variety of styles, refused to sell his name to record contracts, and has gone national on his own independent work. haters gonna hate, but nobody can top that.

Tarpon i don't like the remix of "Otherside" featuring Fences.

The original version of "Otherside" by Macklemore x Ryan is powerful. Fences makes the remix seem pussified. The original is so stark it grabs you by the balls, especially at the crescendo with the horn at the end
