Have a wedding to go to next weekend in Asheville. I have a jacket I got from Jos. A Bank a few years ago that I want to wear, but I don't have matching pants. What's the best way to deal with this situation? Would it be easy to take it to one of their locations and see if they can match it? Or should I just suck it up and buy a new suit for this one occasion?

i had that situation a couple years ago. I had a tan suit from JOB but the pants were pleated. I took the jacket in to see if i could find a suit separate pant to match and didn't have any luck.

What color is the suit? I'm assuming it must have a pattern since you say you can't match it. If it's a solid color, you might be able to find a pair of slacks you can match it with. If not...just buck up and buy a new suit.

What color is the jacket? Could you pair with a lighter pair of pants and wear as a sport coat?

Yeah I've done that before, I just wanted to know how easy it would be to match (apparently it's not, haha). I just went ahead and bought a new suit since I could use it for another wedding in May (and any other formal events, interviews, etc).

Since it's Jos A Bank, it could be possible to match so may be worth a shot. They're having a 60% off sale right now (and buy 1 suit, get 2 free), so a new suit may work out.

I just picked up one from Banana Republic a couple of weeks ago. They had several suits marked down and then another 40% off sale so it ended up being ~220.

i'm really close to just purging my entire "work" side of the closet. There are so many shirts that are ill-fitting, out of style, or just worn out.

I slack when it comes to work items because I'm not face to face with people very often, and when I am it's on a construction site. Most of my chinos have taken a beating this summer because of that and they need to be retired.

I wear a lot of basic 2-button "polo" shirts in the warmer months but I need to update a bunch of them. There's definitely a quality gap between cheap Gap-Factory versions and the classic Polo brand. Especially when it comes to collar lay and pilling and such. Can anyone recommend a brand that isn't $Texas but will last more than a season before falling apart?

Honestly that gap between them is something I've never found anything to fit in...

I just go to the Polo outlet at Concord Mills (I'm sure they have them at other outlet malls) and get last year's Polos for 40-50 bucks and call it a day. They last so much longer that they're worth that price. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay 80 bucks for a Polo shirt at the regular store.

no idea what their polos are like, but I've been very pleased with the quality of any dress shirts, casual shirts, chinos, dress pants, and the one suit I've bought from Bonobos.

They currently have a sale on some of their polos. Free shipping and free returns too so it's a no-risk purchase.

you're very right and that's probably why these have lasted me as long as they have.

I keep wanting to check out Bonobos, but their prices just seem too high for what they offer. My local Nordstrom carries a selection of their clothing. Mostly the weekday khakis and office-casual stuff. I suppose i'll have to just take an evening and go try them on and see.

i haven't liked the selection that nordstrom or belk carries for them. I just buy online and return if I don't like it. I haven't ever bought anything that was not on sale from them. I've been very pleased with everything I've bought from them and haven't found a brand that fits me better.

Really hard to beat Suit Supply. The Sienna is a great cut that won't go out of style and has tons of detailing that you generally are not going to find "off the rack".

I really wanted to hit up Suit Supply but I procrastinated too long and ended up grabbing something OTR from a BB Outlet which I later realized (and should have known) was their shit-line. But I took it to a tailor and it didn't end up being that bad. Now if I could just lose the 20-30lbs many many IPAs put on me I'd be back in business for navy.

Ahh procrastination gets me every time. SuitSupply ships default free 1-day business so arrives pretty quick. You'll definitely need to get the trousers hemmed but generally speaking if you picked the right cut for your body these suits really don't need much if any additional tailoring.

^^1 day for real? Maybe it was me actually procrastinating on getting all the measurements in? All I remember was seeing them praised and worshiped on reddit and knowing I had it on lock and then something happening.

No I think I was too fat for Suit Supply. I think that's what it was. I couldn't find a 50L or 52L to save my life it seemed.

I gave up on combatgent.

I checked regularly for several months for a 44L, and they never had one available.

I would be interested in getting into higher quality denim. I go through jeans every ~6 months even wearing multiple pairs. A more durable pair would be great.

when it comes to jeans, that's one area I actually cheap out. I just get GAP (the only thing I ever even consider from GAP haha) and Levi's. I go for quantity/variety over quality for jeans - and for some reason those two have cuts that just fit me perfectly. I rotate through enough that they last me a few years which is good enough for me. I admit though that I currently have at least a dozen pairs in different washes and colors in my regular rotation so that really cuts down on the individual wear.

For the rest of my wardrobe, I still get probably 50% Bonobos, 25% JCrew, and 25% a mix of H&M, BR, UO, American Apparel.

Bonobos is still my go-to for so much. Haven't found anything that fits me better OTR. My last few suits were also from there on clearance, with $30 of alterations at my local tailor.

Since y'all were talking about jeans a year and a half ago.. Somehow I've managed to live the last 10 or so years with only maybe 3 pair of jeans.. And I don't really like the way my current pair fit (too tight in the.. Junk.. Area..)

So where do guys buy jeans? And not like $200 jeans.

I usually have 3-4 pairs of jeans I rotate through. I still go through them every 6 months. They get holes in the crotch area.

-I used to get Gap jeans but they're cheap and moved to Levi's.

Rapid Movement Denim
Traveler Jeans

Both by Banana Republic. ~$100, but they have 40% off frequently, and if you are a subscriber to their email list, you will get 40% off in your email pretty much every week.

I'm still curious about people that go through casual jeans in 6 months. Not that I don't believe it, but it's just hard to imagine. As stated before, i kind of cheap out on jeans so most are Gap, Levis, HM. A few All Saints or AG or others, but theyre the minority. I walk and bike as my main form of transportation and I'll skate in them too. IOW my jeans are getting significant miles of exercise and movement every week. Even my gap jeans ive had for a few years have no wear-based holes in them. Granted, I own a ton of jeans, so that may place a role.

I tried biking in jeans for a week and had a hole after 3 days in them. I usually do Gap or Levis.

I walk a lot and wear regular sized jeans (not super tight not supper baggy). I alternate between 3-4 pairs. I found putting patches in the crotch helps but 6 months is usually how long they last.

-I have huge thighs from squatting/biking. Maybe that's it? They rub together more?

I used to when I was in middle school. not just cause of size, but they'd rip from the knees and other spots due to me being rough with them and always being outside doing something
