I'm sure it's been discussed in the State thread, but I think we'll land a 7 seed. The dreaded 7 seed.

We'll play a Midwest or west coast team. I could see Colorado, St. Mary's, or Wichita State

It used to be that a team from a weak conference with a stellar record was rated perhaps a little low but more or less in the ball park of their competence. Now, we have a team like gonzaga about to get a one seed and I guarantee every other team is praying to be in their bracket.

All the experts seem to be acting as if there hands are tied when ranking them..."well, they did everything they were asked to do". They played 3 top 25 teams and beat one of them in Ok St. Not saying they are a bad team, but realistically were they coming from a decent conference they would be a 2-3 seed at best.

My vote is that we will get the 8 seed.

i'd take an 8/9 in gonzaga's bracket or a 7/10 in gtown's. we still lose to both but they're the weakest teams

Unless we're in Gonzaga's bracket, an 8/9 is the worst thing for us. I think we are poised to make a nice run, but not if we have to go through UofL or Miami

I would love a 7 seed over the 8/9.

I mean, either way, you're talking win one game and play someone like Louisville in lexington KY or Kansas in Kansas City (or something like that).

Not gonna be a easy road either way, but I do like that 2nd round game where teams don't get a ton of time to prep. I feel like that always benefits the teams that like to run, like us.

Well, Miami had one day to prep for us and totally killed our tempo.

We're gonna be the 16 seed play-in game versus Florida A&M. Think we'll win?

That Miami game probably kept us on the eight line because we looked pretty bad. Depending on who we get we will win zero or one game this year.

probably an 8 after the Miami game, but based on Kenpom we'll be in the 12 seed play-in game against UVA

Miami better be a 1 over Duke.

Please don't group us with Louisville or Indiana.

If State is going to make a deep tournament run like everyone wants, we are probably going to have to knock off a 1 seed. Better to catch them early when they could possibly be overlooking us.

I doubt we get a reaction like that tonight... but last year we were wondering whether we'd get in or not, plus the last selection so it was warranted

There are two teams that I would want to play from the top 10 that in my mind are a class below the others -- Ohio St. and Gonzaga. Don't really care what seeding (realistically anywhere from 7-10) we get if we get those teams for potential second round matchups. I actually think we will be ok no matter our opponent in our first round as we have underachieved severely and Gott seems to get the team up for the tourneys.

CBS and ESPN have us as an 9 or 8 seed playing Illonois or Colorado, respectively. Either way, we'd have to play Louisville (acording to them) and I just don't see that happening. If it does, I think we could actually get to the elite eight or beyond.

I thought we played Miami pretty tough all things considered. Our guys were clearly tired and sore but we should be good to go in the NCAA.

I think the bracket project matrix is as good of a predictor as any in the country.

ESPN never really matches up that well compared to their matrix.

i talked about this in another thread, but it's relevant here I guess just for posterity's sake. someone (http://basketballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=2053) suggested using a combination of kenpom rank and rpi rank as a way determining who was in and out of the ncaa tournament after the auto-bids had been determined. it has worked quite well in the past few years. here's how it shakes out as of this morning's rpi/kenpom ratings:

Auto-bids so far:
Albany, St Louis, Miami, Florida Gulf Coast, Kansas, Louisville, Montana, Liberty, Pacific, James Madison, Memphis , Valparaiso, Harvard, Iona, Akron, North Carolina A&T, Creighton, New Mexico, Long Island, Belmont, Oregon, Bucknell, Ole Miss, Davidson, Northwestern State,Southern, South Dakota State, WKU, Gonzaga, New Mexico State

Combined Rk, Team, KP, RPI
1 Louisville* 2 3
2 Duke 5 1
3 Florida 1 6
4 Gonzaga* 4 7
5 Indiana 3 8
6 Kansas* 8 5
7 Ohio St. 6 11 (currently in B1G final)
8 Miami FL* 14 4
9 New Mexico* 16 2
10 Michigan St. 10 9
11 Georgetown 12 10
12 Syracuse 13 13
13 Michigan 11 17
14 Arizona 20 15
15 Marquette 25 12
16 St. Louis* 17 20
17 Wisconsin 9 29 (currently in B1G final)
18 Creighton* 15 25
19 North Carolina 26 16
20 Virginia Commonwealth 19 23
21 Oklahoma St. 21 26
22 Colorado St. 24 24
23 Pittsburgh 7 43
24 Kansas St. 30 21
25 Memphis* 37 14
26 Missouri 18 35
27 St. Mary's 22 31

34 Notre Dame 31 36
35 Wichita St. 33 37
36 Butler 52 19
37 UCLA 44 27
38 Illinois 42 39
39 Iowa St. 36 45
40 Colorado 50 38
41 Cincinnati 40 49
42 Ole Miss* 39 50
43 Oregon* 43 46
44 Southern Mississippi 56 34
45 Boise St. 49 44
46 Oklahoma 51 42
47 La Salle 57 40
48 Villanova 46 51
49 Akron* 54 47
50 Connecticut 53 48
51 Virginia 27 74
---------------------IN/OUT-----------------------
52 Kentucky 47 56
53 Denver 38 69
54 Baylor 41 67
55 Iowa 29 79
56 Temple 68 41
57 California 60 53
58 Bucknell* 62 52
59 Davidson* 58 62
60 Alabama 61 60

There are 31 auto-bids, leaving 37 at-large bids. I've counted up these remaining 37 from the non-auto-bids. UConn and UVA are tied using this very basic metric. We'll see. Edit: UConn ineligible.

we really don't deserve a top-10 if you think about it

haven't shown up in the top-40 of the coach's or media polls over the past 2 months

we're a legit 11 or 12 seed, but they'll probably give us a 7 or 8 because of name and fanbase

UL as the top seed is good.

Oregon has been the only one screwed so far at a 12 seed I figured at least a 10 for them.

thats a REALLY tough bracket for the #1 overall seed.

Duke, Michigan St, OK State, St. Louis
all good teams.

so does that mean that Duke is the lowest of the four #2 seeds?

ie best #1 seed, worst #2 seed, best #3 seed, worst #4 seed, etc? isn't that how they do it?
